Aircon regas

Took the Toyota Fortuner to get it's aircon regassed this morning... The sign up at the shop showed R350 for a regas..
Upon paying, the lady said it's R580... and I said, but the sign says R350. Then she said, but that's for 'small' vehicles as large vehicles have double aircon units or something, I don't know how it works. So I paid anyway and took her word for it.

Now I'm googling but can't find anything about double aircons in bigger cars...

Did I get scammed?

The fact is the aircon system in a big car is bigger, I don't know why she chose to come up with some nonsense. Did the sign not say "from R350"?

I always double check the price before I do anything, just to avoid such things.

Either way you hopefully learned something. Agree on price before people work on your stuff.

Not a good way to conduct business. Pricing should be clear and concise, double checked, and agreed upon.

How did they calculate the fee for it to come to R580?

Sure, the bigger car's AC may require more refrigerant, but to the amount of R230 more? That seems steep, considering it should (assuming) be R134A refrigerant, which is quite affordable.

Anyway, I'm no expert and am just speculating. Hope this isn't the case where they put a nice sign out for an attractive price (of in this case R350) but in actual fact, none of the customers ever pay R350.

Just get your aircon checked as well, as regasing should only happen when the aircon is being worked on, it's a complete closed system so it shouldn't run out.
Did they put dye in with it?
