Hey Guys,

I been wondering about air fryers - are they good?
Specifically for fried chicken - I love my fried chicken and I been reading that an air fryer can make really good fried chicken and its better because you not using a lot of oil

Does anyone know if this is true?
Or does anyone here have an air fryer and can comment on whether is good for fried chicken.

Thanks!

I bought mine a few months ago (much to my *initial* despair of my wife due to me spending unneccessarily). The model in question is the Philips airfryer with manual controls (base model). You get one with a touch screen, then a bigger one but that's around R4000 plus.
It's one of those kitchen appliances that you will use for a multitude of things.
It was probably one of the best buys, right alongside our pressure cooker.

Fried chicken is awesome, it comes out nice and juicy, not dry at all.
Even chips are fantastic, we use oven chips/McCains Slap chips and they come out fantastic.

I've also tried porterhouse steaks (awesome); lamb chops (brilliant); samoosas (only thing which comes out a bit dry, even after basting with oil).
You can even bake things like cakes and muffins (if you buy the baking pan accessory).
I've bought the double layer accessory so that you can put things into the basket, and then on this chrome stand so that you get a greater surface area.

I for one am extremely happy with mine. I'm not sure about the other manufacturers, but my Philips is excellent.

was the very 1st one ..cant remember what make and model and wattage :p

chips always came out like slap chips ...not propery crispy

samoosas and stuff was the same

You're doing it wrong :p
Air fryers are awesome!

We've made tons of stuff with ours, but I will admit that samoosas cooked in it don't taste that great.

The phillips one is the one I heard good things about.

Juicy chicken! Thats what I want! but does the chicken come out crispy?

My Philips airfryer is my best kitchen appliance purchase in the last couple of years. If you don't have one, you NEED one.

That's the one, but that is way over priced.
Check Takealot, I managed to get one on sale for R1800, but I think now they're around R2400.

And yes, the chicken comes out crispy outside, juicy inside.
Quite honestly I expected it to be dry, but was pleasantly suprised!

Even steaks and lamb chops were lovely and juicy; however don't try fillet steaks - that must be done in a pan with oil! I've tried fillets in there and they were not done to my satisfaction :(
Obviously if you leave them in longer, they get more crispy.

Shop around for prices before you buy.
Oh, btw, it will do fantastic fried chicken, but breaded chicken doesn't work so lekker (especially if you don't have the double layer accessory I have) because the breading gets stuck onto the basket which makes it a beeyatch to clean.

Unfortunately this is more or less the only company who carries this.

I use my Philips daily, only kitchen gadget that actually works and is awesome.
Crispy chicken, awesome wings, chicken schnitzel, pops, frozen fish brilliant and fries without oil, magic!!!

air fryers are amazing.

we make everything from Bacon weaves to pork bangers in ours. washinig it is a mission, but its totally worth it.
oven chips, fried chicken, oven bake foods, heating up chips (does it better than a microwave)

EVERYTHING is better air fried.

I think I should get this... Now I need to justify to thee lady why this is better than the bedside pedestals she wants... lol

I also have a philips airfryer (exactly the one you posted in your link) and use it often. It makes meat and sausages awesome and it does chicken very well.

My chicken comes out with a slightly crispy skin with the chicken inside tender, soft and juicy, I wouldn't really call it "fried chicken". It is more Nando's chicken like. I have never tried my chicken with a coating on it so not sure how well it would do with that.

I use mine often and was a good buy.

Makro have the Philips Airfryer plus free Philips Hand Blender for R1899.

Definitely worth every cent... Saves on electricity (using it instead of the oven) I have even made mini pizzas in mine!! Fluffs the pastry to absolute perfection... Bacon, chicken, thick juicy steaks well done and still juicy... Makes oven chips crispy.. Chicken nuggets are the best!
