Good day Afrihost

I would like to know, if a device is not on the "Approved List" does this mean it will not work - or just has not been verified to work?
I have a Motorola RAZR 40 and want to change my nano-SIM to an eSIM so that I can put another physical SIM in the phone (it only takes one physical SIM and one eSIM). Afrihost nano-SIM works.

Good day.

It has not been verified to work, and MTN does the verification.

Wow, thanks for the prompt response.
So there is no way to go ahead unless they verify? Is there any way I can go to MTN to have the device verified? Or am I at a dead-end?

Unfortunately, not.
It is done in phases, but I can check with the airmobile team. To see if they can submit new devices for verification.

Please if you can. I would love to be able to get it to work.
And we can't just set it up like any other device and see what happens? Sorry if a silly question - I'm not familiar with using an eSIM.

had something similar with my watch 5 and watch 4, Afrihost only supports watch 6, and I managed to get it to work on "unapproved" devices.

was a bit of a pain though, took photos with another phone of the code and copy and pasted the code to get it to work.

Trick question?:ROFL:You could, but you might sit with a package that is not working.
Well, I do have a physical SIM so if that gets deactivated in the process. Worse that can happen is I must replace the SIM and be without my number a few days while the SIM is delivered. But if it doesn't get deactivated, I just switch back to it.

Instead, get a new number for now, and not port your existing number

Goodness. Well I've never made use of eSIM before, so I've little knowledge of the process involved. But I'm glad to see that it could work despite not being on the "approved list". This phone is practically pure android if you must compare your Huawei/Xiaomi/Oppo's etc.

How do you mean not port? I am already on AirMobile after I ported from Telkom.
I meant keep your main number on the physical sim and not use it to test, but a new number with the e-SIM to test if it will work or not.

Oh yes, that could work. I suppose I just apply online - but I'd essentially just throw the number away again.
Let's say it does work, how do I go about changing from a physical SIM to an eSIM?
Sorry for being annoying, but thank you for the help.

We will treat it as Sim swap of the physical sim to an eSim on the same number.
You will then cancel the new number.

its really simple the Esim is essentially a QRcode, thats it, afrihost supplies that on the app or via the email they send you, thats the SIM card if you want to think of it that way.

you go into your sim manager add a new sim card, and there should be an option to select what type of sim it is,
select esim, you will have an option to either take a photo of the code or enter the code manually, either way is good, and then your esim will work on a "unapproved" device.

kind of silly from Afrihost to say this will work and this wont, when many people proven it will work perfectly with anything that takes a esim.

I think the approval is being done my MTN as their provider. Afrihost is only providing the data and airtime but using some of MTNs last mile infrastructure.

I think its silly to say X is approved while Y isnt approved when its essentially the exact same thing,
perfect example with the watch 4,5 vs the expensive 6,7 and ultra.

just a example that jumps out at me, as the process to add a sim on any of these is the same, and I believe the same for anybody else

If the QR code displayed, then I could test, but there is no QR code:

did the same thing for me, you need to open the email in firefox or another browser and then eventually it will work,

went back and forth with afrihost trying to figure this out. terrible Support sometimes, still didnt get problems sorted, eventually gave up and ported my FNB esim across

@Afrigirl given up with you guys, first you make emails that dont work, then CREATE another different Esim when I wanted a port done and reactivate my number, then the utterly bizarre and pointless and stupid Verification process that feels like minority report, take a photo with your ID number and the date and then claim its not clear 100 times over again.

you guys seriously need to work on your user onboarding and support for this system, firstly" unapproved" WFT is that, anything with an Esim works, literally anything, there isn't anything unique of special about it, only your support teams who dont know how to troubleshoot problems efficiently.
