Want to upgrade. I go online and see these packages:

online.png

I then open the app and choose CHANGE PACKAGE > Airmobile monthly > and see this:

hoo.png

Online: 10gb + R100 airtime = R199
App: 9gb + R120 airtime = R319

The heck am I missing here?
Why is it so much more expensive via the app?

Looks like you are on the legacy system. (MTN sim with Afrihost APN) I see you have 'VoLTE' showing.

Hence the price difference?

When on AirMobile, you have a Afrihost branded SIM card on the MVNO system, this system does not have 'VoLTE' yet and falls back to 3G for calling.

Only thing I can think of.

Hi @saor you are on the Airmobile Legacy and not MVNO.
On the website to view prices of the Aimobile Legacy, you need to select "Data only"

I want to upgrade to a package with more data and I can't really see why I need to pay so much more just because I'm on legacy (why is it so much more expensive anyway). Either way - how do I go about changing to a regular air mobile package without downtime?

Ok but why is the upgrade path in the app so expensive? I want to upgrade to a package with more data and I can't really see why I need to pay so much more. How do I go about this without downtime?
Please note that with Airmobile MVNO, VoLTE is not enabled.
The use of USSD is limited, depending on the servise we will have to whitelist first with MTN.

To move over to MVNO Airmobile, you will need to port.
You will lose the data you currently have.
You can choose between an eSIM or a physical SIM.

I don't use USSD for anything. Is there a disadvantage to having VoLTE disabled? Basically what's the advantage to this legacy system that costs 40% more?

When the sim isn't VoLTE capable, and if you're in an area that doesn't have 3G coverage, then you won't be able to make voice calls, including to emergency.

For legacy, we still manage the IP management, and the client can switch from a CGNAT to a public IP.
It has both VoWifi and VoWifi.
International roaming enabled.

If you are using the SIM just for data, and it is not your main SIM card, then yeah, you can switch to the new airmobile.
I dont advise switching to Airmobile for a main number; everything with it is a work in progress.

Main SIM so ja - might stick where I am.

Thought I'd save by picking a larger package but doesn't seem like it.

I pay R109 for 3gb data and R40 airtime. I buy another 3 x 1gb topups at R30 each so my monthly total for 6gb = R109 + R90 = R208.

The 6gb package is R219. Yeah it's a bit more airtime but I barely use it.

Can I downgrade my Air3 to a voice only thing and use airmobile (AIR10 or whatever) as a second SIM for cheaper data?

Voice is not our primary offering; therefore, your current package cannot be downgraded to a voice-only package, but to a data-only package.
And the data only package is more expensive than your mothly package.
