However, if their scanners show that you have shoved the item up your ass to hide it, they will pay a lot of attention to it.

So 25% plus 15% VAT? If so it would be R2240 for R5600 ring

No, the limit for travellers is R5000 so it would be far less.

TBH I wouldn't sweat it unless you bought a lot of other stuff as well.
