Airtags and Durecell batteries?

Has anybody else experienced this?

My one airtag (oldest one) started giving battery complaints. I replaced the battery with a Durecell CR2032. It failed to turn on but connects with the original Panasonic again.

Thinking the Duracell might be flat I bought a new pack today but it has exactly the same problem.

Just me?

Ok nevermind I should have just Googled. Apparently the bitter coating on many coincells to stop kids from swallowing them interferes with the contacts of the airtags. By wiping it with a alcohol wipe you can get rid of it and then it works fine.

You could buy a special AirTag-compatible button cell, but you don't have to. Here's the safe way to fix the batteries you already own.

But those batteries probably don’t have big enough surface area for this to become a problem.

Ima going to chew one tonight if I do have some around still and give feedback.. got a nice set of rechargeable ones these days so haven't bought batteries in quite a while
