Just got a bill from Telkom for a contract that was cancelled in August. I had called Telkom earlier this year in advance just to enquire as to when to put in my request for cancellation ( because I know how dodgy theses cell phone companies can be) I was told 2 months prior to end of 24 mnth contract, which I did in August. I spoke to a consultant who told me I just needed to fill in a cancellation form and forward it back to her. I did so immediately. The cost of the huawei modem was R130pm for 2gigs of data. I was also cancelling my cell phone contract. So all in all the two contracts were R260 pm.
Today I get a bill from Telkom for R513.50 for the modem that was R130 on contract. Upon querying this I was told that I did not answer the phone when they called to confirm cancellation ( duh wasn't the email a confirmation written in black and white??? ) therefore they could not cancel my contract. But the funny thing is that the phone contract details were on the same form but that was cancelled and not the modem. Even more strange is that they needed telephonic permission to cancel a contract which they had already received written notice for, but the idiots didn't need my permission to take my money out of my account without my consent. please can someone tell me who do I get hold of to rectify this issue asap. If they continue to drain me of R513.50 every month for the next 2 years they will rob me of R12324. This is daylight robbery and totally unethical business practice. I would also like to know if I can cancel another contract I took out with them last month before I found out they were such rip offs.

You could try posting your problem on their Facebook page and inbox them with your details. They usually come back within 24 hours.

They are usually quite helpful.

I agree, Telkom's new cancellation policy is an absolute joke, and needs to be reconsidered.

You can't even go into a Telkom Direct branch anymore to submit your cancellation. You have to hope that they actually receive it via email, and that you're available to take their call, when they confirm your cancellation for "Security Purposes".

The good news is, that you can still file a dispute at a Telkom Direct branch. You'll probably have to pay the account first, which has unfortunately always been their policy, but if you can provide proof of your cancellation submission, they'll credit your account.
