Hello Folks, I need some advise with regard to my vehicle,
I am clueless when it comes to cars.

I have a Hyundai Getz with the immobilizer thing. When you press the button
on the key, whether you're locking or unlocking the car, the indicator lights normally
stay on for a second or so then go off. What I have observed now is that when I lock the car,
nothing happens.

Now,the alarm on the car just randomly goes off in the middle of the night or during the
day on its own and its very irritating. Can somebody please enlighten me as to what I need
to do?

Thanks

LOL nah, I have been around for quite some time but never had a
reason to post, so now I thought why not ask the myBB community.

Thanks.

I guess a wiring problem. 1 or more of the wires can earth against the car body

1.Contact to earth on one of the wires, you will have to trace wires for contact with the body, check under the seats if none of the wires have been skinned and are now making a contact with the body of the car.

2.One of the switches is not working properly therefore simulating an condition which is picked up by the alarm system as a intrusion/ breach of security, check all the switches on the doors, check if the lamp on the car ceiling goes on or off when pressing the switch. Check if the lamp in the boot goes off when you press the switch in the boot lid.

3.Check the fuses.

And not easy to find.. Have you done or had done any additions to your vehicle? fancy sound system, fancy lights etc? If so, try and see how this was done and look for any damage to other wires in harnesses that may have been messed around with.

If not then a simple check of the battery condition and battery replacement (car) might be all that is required.

+1 for a faulty battery. My car also did all kinds of weird things when the battery was about to die. One of them was the alarm. Also check if your battery terminals aren't corroded.

Thank you, your input is much appreciated. I will have to look at the cables and the
battery and if all else fails, I will take it to some "Electrician" down the road to look at it.

Nothing has been changed or added in the car recently i.e no sound
system or tampering with the cables AFAIK.

It normally does that when it one of the doors is not closed properly but I checked the
doors and they were all locked,so I'm assuming it's something else.

Interesting to see the problem you're experiencing... my mom has a 2009 Chevrolet Optra 1.6 LS and the alarm has a mind of its own I tell you. GM Ladysmith failed to locate the root of the problem while it was still under warranty. Even more interesting, a few weeks ago I witnessed a police squad car with the EXACT problem in the parking bay at our local police station... no prizes for guessing which car model it was

This is where I would bet my money. Also check that the contact on the bonnet is not faulty and that the rubber stoppers beneath the bonnet are properly adjusted
