Greetings MyBB,

I am at my wits end with this problem and I need an answer from someone knowledgeable on all things electrical. December last year I installed a new alarm with new outside beams and ever since that install I have two transformers on the wall. One powers the alarm system itself while the other powers the perimeter beams. After about 2 weeks I noticed this humming noise, a week later in a separate room the noise was much louder and if you were in the spare room the hum prevented you from sleeping. So I isolated which one was humming and asked for it to be replaced. A couple of weeks later the other one started and so a pattern was established, new ones get installed and sometimes immediately sometimes a week or two later they start humming and vibrating which gets loud enough to be noticeable. They are also warm to the touch which is understandable. The alarm company yesterday replaced the one with a bigger, better transformer and it seems fine but now the partner has started being noisy. Last night I loosened the wall screws just enough so that contact is not being made with the wall and I had quite a bit of noise drop but man this thing is still humming away, loud enough to be noticeable and prevent you from sleeping in that room. Noisy transformer specs are:

Made in China Model: POW-301 Input: 230VAC Output: 16V Current: 2.5AMP Power: 40VA

What am I missing? I had an electrician come out and test the wall plugs and mains and it is clean, no problem. My thinking is maybe the electrical field from the transformers might be interfering with each other leading to heat buildup, the humming and eventually vibrating the wall. Or maybe it is really crud quality and my ears are just to sensitive to the vibration and noise?

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. :)

Considering AC transformers work on fluctuating magnetic fields between the primary and secondary coils, there may well be some interference if they're placed close to one another - this is however relatively unlikely...

Have you tried switching brands? Checked that they can meet the load requirements for the alarms they're attached to? (I.E enough rated Amps (Although 2.5 should be ample))

We switched one of the transformers to beefier one last night, not sure on the manufacturer though but it says it complies with SANS 60950-1 whatever that is, the China ones don't say that. Blue Security have no idea what is going on and seem quite happy to keep on replacing them at their cost I am just getting annoyed to hell with the constant noise and having them replaced. I will have to check the alarm documents that I have but I am pretty sure it lines up with the specs.
