Alberton Fibre

Anyone know if Seacom gave up on their Fibre to the South thing? See its no longer even on their website.

They did roll out, but it was nowhere as large as they initially claimed...

Vumatel have canceled their plans in Brackenhurst and Brackendowns. They did a few test drills, and then decided to cancel all roll out because as they said "There are already four Fibre providers currently working in the area".
Who those four providers are we cannot figure out, because we are currently only aware of two partial roll outs (OpenServe and Vodacom).

I'm not sure if Vumatel are carrying on with their plans for Meyersdal, but they were told to get out of the Meyersdal Estate (the one South of Hart Avenue) because Vodacom has already installed in that Estate and they don't want any more digging there.

I'm in Alberante and both Vuma and Seacom were very active with trenching and installing conduits but it all seems to have come to a grinding halt now.

They are open access. They just have no other ISP's on their network...

Did not know that. Wonder why there are no other ISPs...

ah ok, I'll take Vodacom on a month to month. Hopefully it will be open access at a later stage.
Yeh Vodacom is a bit pricey b ut my options are limited as my LTE is really crap lately

Yeah, I am on month 2 month as well. They are almost finished with the install. It's going fairly quick.

I’ve preordered with Vodacom. They’ve left the ticket open until fibre is installed. Going for the 40/20. Their 100/50 is dam expensive and they don’t have a 50/50 which is dumb, but either way still better than what I have. Once someone else comes I’ll jump ship.

Last year Cuna they handed out booklets down the road from me and it had multiple isp in there with prices. Don’t see any of them active in verwoerdpark yet. Vodacom said that fibre is active already in some parts so it’s defintely very quick. I do wonder if anyone has been able to go with anyone else still

Vumatel rolling out in Meyersdal by me, trenches dug up at corners with pink banners/fencing. Paint marks all over

BRACKEN FIBRE UPDATE:
This is an indication of the network that SADV (SA Digital Villages) have acquired from Motheo Construction and will be lighting up in the near Future. We will provide timelines ASAP. But if you fall inside that area, please visit www.signup4fibre.co.za and log your interest in the meantime so that they can contact you. This will be an OPEN ACCESS network, meaning that you will be able to use any of ther 20 ISPs available on their network. NOTE: The map is not final and will likely still be updated further. Please do not ask me if your street is included or not as I don't have that detailed info yet.

Does anyone know how the fibre rollout in South Crest is going?

I am seeing a lot of Openserve vehicles busy there the last couple of months

So, Brackendowns has been live for a few weeks now. I'm loving fibre :) It keeps me regular.

I have been contacted by a company called Blitz Fibre that will be rolling out Fibre to the complexes in New Redruth on the DFA network. I have arranged a meeting for next week with the owners and Blitz Fibre. Holding thumbs that the ball can start get rolling on this.

Blitz Fibre says that they install free of charge and they have an extensive lists of ISPs one can use. I assume they take care of the last mile.

They have a useless fibre coverage map and also no pricing that I could see. Do keep us posted though.

I live in Verwoerdpark. At home there is zero Vodacom cell reception.
All cables have even laid but cannot find s service provider for fiber at home. Any advice anyone?

I'm in the ElandsRock Nature Estate in South Crest and have been waiting for fibre for a year now even though I and many other neighbours have shown interest.

I really hope that some form of progress is being made on fibre coverage around here.
PM me your details. That estate is on net for me.

They started digging in Florentia, Verwoerdpark and Alberton North areas. Seems there is hope after all. But I'm already on Rain 5G, going to be a hard sell to change to fiber once it is up and running.
