Power should be restored to all parts of Alberton by the end of the day on Monday, the Ekurhuleni municipality said.
"The current situation is the power is out. We are still aiming to restore power by the end of today [Monday]," said spokesman Sam Modiba.
Parts of Alberton have been without electricity since Saturday because of damaged circuit breakers.
"All the hard work has been done in terms of attending to some of those components that were giving us a hassle.
"We are busy now with various tests on the [Truida Road] substation to energise, so we can restore."
He said other tests had also been run to pick up issues within the system. When power was restored, it would be 70 percent reliable, as the arrangements being made were temporary.
"... So we request residents to use power sparingly," Modiba said.
"The refurbishment of Truida substation has been given priority. Some components that we ordered arrived yesterday. By the time we are finished, the sub-station will be as good as new."
He said all the substation components would have been overhauled by March.
"The current problems have affected 10 percent of Alberton, but it is a critical 10 percent. So obviously, up until that time, it is a temporary arrangement. The permanent solution is coming."
