Has anyone successfully haced the alcatal speedtouch home to the pro, and set it up so it connects to the internet automatically?

I have successfully changed everything, but it does not want to connect, just says trying the whole time.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Nope, I never did get the automated connection running on "upgraded" Speedtouch Pro, you need the correct VPI/VCI numbers, which were not static when I was playing with this a year ago.

However, now that you modem is patched, you can connect simultaneously from multiple PC's connected to the LAN. Just set up dial up accounts on each PC. Or if you prefer you could use something like winroute... but thats a pain to set up each time, and will set you back a few $.

Another reason why you wouldn't wanna use automatic connection, is if you have more than 1 account like I do. My first account is capped within a few days, I then use it for 128K VPN access. Second account is my "browsing account". Thus I can easily switch between the two.

Alcatel modems supplied by telkom only support PPPoA and not PPPoE, that could be why you can't connect.

Hi,

Besides the hack to upgrade your SpeedTouch Home to the SpeedTouch Pro, there also is a hack to upgrade to the Speedtouch 510v3 (NB: only for POTS, not for ISDN).

The 510 has both PPPoA and PPPoE inside, just what you need! Then the modem should be able to automatically connect

I hope your French is ok: http://www.forpage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=179

BTW, I did this upgrade once, just for fun, an it works ok.
Please let us know if it works for you.
