My mother's phone recently broke. She got herself a Alcatel one Touch Pixi for R549.All that my mom uses her phone for is phone calls, texting and to check the weather. I played around with it for a while and think it is a pretty decent phone for the price.according to the specs it has only 1/2GB internal memory but the one that my mom got came with a 2GB micro sd preinstalled. The screen is bright and clear but does at times not respond very well to touch. The three physical buttons are rather dodgy and you sometimes have to press them very hard for them to work. The phone is quite laggy at times. When you press the home button it takes a second ot two before the home screen wallpaper appears.A couple of seconds later the home screen icons will appear. But a decent phone if you do not need any bells and whistles. The micro sd card came as a surprize as it is not mentioned anywhere on the box.

You just pointed out a few things that are wrong with the phone and still call it decent. Seems very under specced. I would invest a couple of more hundred rand and get a Hauweeeee Y300.

Now that would not work a Y300 is too big.The first thing my mom did when the Pixi came out of its box were to bitch about its huge size.My moms previous phone were a samsung Galaxy Pocket.
