I read that it's different for everyone.

Let's say I have this friend that wants to drink alone and get blackout drunk. What steps could he take to not get alcohol poisoning and die?

Drink til you're really drunk, have some fun, don't drive, then eat something and go to sleep.

Make sure he passes out face down not on his back. He can choke on his own vomit and if the stomach contents enter the lungs its a very serious problem.

Lots of water when patients have alcohol poisoning two things happen. 1) dehydration and 2) in rough cases blood sugar is depleted to 0 this requires hospital care iv infusion of saline with a stat dose of iv dextrose.

That's why you must drink water and eat before drinking.

Edit:

I misread your post. I didn't note "alone" well not a good idea to drink alone till u blackout lol. Though why would u drink like a mad man on your own? Just drink to get drunk then go sleep lol. If a emergency arises and u on your own you would probably die.

If you down the bottle, there is a good chance you'll die. But not if you drink it over a stretched out time, like 1 or 2 drinks (double and mix) per hour, then there is a better chance of a hangover than death.

Depends on your tolerance as well

Even if you down a bottle chances are you will survive (depending on your weight and the bottle of course).
Chances are he will puke first.

Weird. I still have the Enema page from wikipedia open and they mentioned some people do that. Though you wouldn't have to worry about the taste anymore.

Alcohol enemas can and do kill, as it bypasses the ordinary metabolic stages in your gut which breaks it down. You're effectively taking alcohol straight to the colon which cannot handle it, and you die, or get too schit-faced to remember a thing...

Best bet is to take a lot of steps - to Alcoholics Anonymous ...

Alcohol poisoning is the least of one's worries when deliberately getting black-out drunk.

The alternative is to encourage his behaviour whilst you shop for a dark suit for the funeral.
