2 new models are now available in SA:

Alfa Romeo 1.4 MultiAir 100 kW Progression – R227 900 (incl. VAT)

Alfa Romeo 1.4 MultiAir 125 kW Quadrofoglio Verde – R264 000 (incl VAT)

The Quodrofoglio looks especially nice. /me waits for a low mileage 2-year-old one for cheap.

Seems like a very nice mix of performance and eco-friendliness (I especially like the 60% reduction in NOx emissions vs conventional petrol engines), the active suspension looks fantastic, and they come standard with auto stop/start (which I love). Just looking forward to the DSG gearbox.

Nah doesn't have that appeal even though its an Alfa...
Will still get killed by the Mini.
Audis A1 will be a better buy than this Alfa.
Even if VW try a 1.4 TFSi with 118kW stop/start and DSG why would anyone buy this?
And if your reply has something to do with passion and soul, no Alfa with less than 6 cylinders has a "soul"

Does VW offer a stop/start and DSG option? You must admit that this MultiAir tech is highly advanced.

I don't think the Polos here have stop/start but I'm sure its in the pipeline. Depends on the market in SA. There's not a lot of environmental car buyers in the segment yet but if the competitors start doing well VW will have to bring the models now available overseas.

I wouldn't call in technological, more like a solution to a problem. Look at that car, how much "air" was going in? And then they name it Multi Air... Sounds like a new Nike sneaker.

They've made a fundamental change in cam & inlet design with substantial increases in power and decreases in emissions. Kind of a big deal.

I guess you would know car emission stats as well as I know their power stats so maybe its good. I don't quite use 136mg/Km as a feature coz it falls in the same category as manufacturers "claimed" fuel consumption BS.
Its all relative.

So how good is 136mg/Km compared to other cars in the segment?

It's quite good, actually. Not BS either, because you can compare cars using the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. It doesn't have to be absolute values to be of use.

Power stats mean absolutely nothing if you don't have the power and torque curves on paper. We don't all need a 300kW 800Nm monster to get to work and back. It's g/km, by the way. If they could get it down to mg, I'd be first in line to buy one.

There would be a market if VW actually brought the cars to our shores first. I know of quite a few people who would rather have an economical car than a robot racer.

How can you listen to an Alfa hater like JK9...they had to go and steal our desing guru's as well coz they want VW's to look like Alfa's! This is the best car in that class...simple JK9 will always think of straight line speed 1st before he thinks of anything else...the Cooper is looks the same as it did when it was 1st re-introduced again. Have you seen a MiTo on the road? THese things snap necks the way they demand presence! Like it or not...these little cars look the best in its class...Audi's attempt is poor! That car looks like a shoe! MiTo is the most advanced car in its class dude what you talking bout...check the fuel consumption on that 1750 TBi engine...under 6l/100 for a 175kw engine!

ANDVANCED - VW/Audi a boring partnership...now hoping Italdesign will spice things up, lol, don't be surprised if the next Golf comes out looking like a Giulietta!

BEY HATER!

Sorry dude this Alfa and most of their new cars have lost their spice... I still say fuel consumption and g/km is relative and probably only possible with an "optimal driving style"
