The vibe & aesthetic was cool - I really enjoyed that side of it but there were a few things that kept pulling me out of the movie:I quite liked it, it's similar in feel to the original, but different enough to be entertaining and original. I got some Dead Space vibes from it, which is quite fitting because Alien / Aliens influenced the original Dead Space game.
Firstly the cast. I actually enjoyed the two leads - Cailee Spaeny seems cool and Archie Renaux was fine but their age seems misplaced in the movie: They hold off pretty well against the aliens, use guns they 'learned from youtube' and Cailee Spaeny's character just feels way too competent in the end for a bunch of mining kids. And while we're at it: They're portrayed as basically mining grunts - she gets slapped with another 5 years of duty 'just because', so they don't seem like they have a lot. But then her mates have a ship that can get into space? And they can just take off and go as they please?
So then I'm expecting them to buckle in for a few days of flight but no - the wreck is right above the planet. And nobody else on that planet is interested in the wreck? I mean if a bunch of teens have a spaceship surely everyone has a spaceship and would be interested. This proximity to the planet also made it feel like they could call for help if they really wanted t, whereas original Alien there was nobody to help them in the vast of space.
The CG for Ash was terrible imo. I kept telling myself he's a broken android but it still looked stupid.
The ship falling into the rings of the planet was cool. Alien acid was cool.
