Hey guys,

Another Alienware thread… but it seems that the other doesn’t really offer any definite answers…

So these days if you go to alienware.co.za you are redirected to alienware “rest of the world” and prices are compiled @ 0% VAT and in euros.

I would like to know if anyone around here has imported alienware PCs/notebooks. What are the additional charges? They ship via DHL courier which is included in the price. Like I said the price is free of VAT so somewhere along the line I know you’ll pay VAT. But what else? Is there a limit wrt how much you may bring in? What about customs and duties? The sars website is so hay wire it’s difficult to get any info there and also, it’s difficult to find out whether or not alienware falls under certain trade laws with RSA.

Any info would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I don't know if the mark it as a gift or give it a lower value, but if it all goes to regulations you'll and up paying atleast 20% import duties and vat.

Apparently computer parts are duty free, just liable for tax....would a laptop be considered computer parts?

I'm not sure, though I have phoned customs this one time to ask and they arent too bright

You sure about that? You're right about one thing, customs and sars doesn't have a clue what you're asking them and alienware UK obviously can not help. That's why I posted here. Looking for someone who has personal experience in recently importing alienware products.

Anyway... thanks!
