Just needed to get this off my chest - Idiot dell!!!

I replaced the drive in my m11xr2 this weekend with a momentus xt 500gb and try a clean install of win7 so I can start fresh.

Problem 1: laptop doesn't ship with drivers!
Problem 2: support.dell.com doesn't have all the drivers for the laptop!!!

I've dl'ed all of the stuff off the dell site but I still have some unknown devices in device manager and dont know what they are. I've even gone through the regular m11x drivers and used them which did find some of the devices and help the problem but I'm now left with 3 items which I don't know.

Is there any way of finding out what those devices are so that I can find the drivers for them without having to plug my old drive back in?

Thanks

Have you downloaded and installed every single driver for the laptop?

Check windows update for driver updates.

Just like Toyota does not make spark plugs dell etc does not make the chipsets in their laptops, they source them and 'glue' it all together. So why not rather go to the chipset manufacturers site and get the latest drivers from them, they are always up to date unlike dell etc who stop doing updates after a short while.

So install one of these free utilities to get system/chipset info http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-system-information-utility.htm

Once you have a list of all the different chipsets in your laptop with their respective model numbers go to the chipset manufacturers websites like Intel, AMD, ATI, nVidia, Realtek, Marvell, Broadcom etc and download the drivers from their sites. I promise you they will be newer than sourcing them elsewhere.
