Is he saying taxi's should pay too? Haven't been they been excluded?

Not that I have any intention of ever going to Jhb again, but how would a visitor using a toll road get billed? Does Sanral use the license plate to send a posted account? If so, and knowing the incompetence of the SA Postal Service, it could take more than seven days to get to smaller towns around SA

So basically, not only are taxis a complete menace to the roads but we'll be subsidising them. I think it's awesome that they're being rewared for treating the roads like their own personal playground.
You know taxi drivers will be laughing at the rest of us everytime they go through a gantry.

I'm sorry but I will drive out of my way on back roads rather than have anything to do with the farce that is e-tolls.
 
They know that, if they tried to get taxis to pay tolls, there would be big sheet.
 
It just means that they are more scared of the taxis than they are of middle class people.

Betcha if you don't get a day pass you'll be invoiced at the "alternative" rate which is something INSANE. Like 10x the price.

correct. There will be different rates for those with e-tags and for those who don't. The fees will probably be in the act.

And, yes, the fees for non tagholders will be high. These fees will include admin charges, postal, etc. So, where an etagholder would pay R2.50 others will probably pay aroun R9.

the system will work exactly like speeding fines. When you use a gantry, your registration number will be checked against eNatis. They will mail you a bill outlining what you owe, additional charges for not paying within 7 days, etc. This bill will have to be paid before a certain date.

if the date goes by and you have not paid, they will issue a summons. It will be sent to your local sherrif office. They will serve the summons on you. New fees will be added to cover Sanrals and the sherrif costs. You will again be able to pay the total bill fees before a certain date or appear in court.

if you don't pay and do not appear in court a warrant will be issued for your arrest. You will be circulated as a wanted person. You will also not be able to renew your car license at the end of the year as you will be blocked on eNatis as well.

If you do use the gantry and keep postponing payments you could end up paying a few thousand Rand per gantry if you do not want to go to court. In addition, if the matter goes to court and you are not there, not only will you be arrested at some point, but you will face additional fines for contempt of court, let alone imprisonment for not paying toll fees.

Besides, at the end of the day the only real winners will be Sanral and government. The best way to **** this system up will be to stay off toll roads. Use alternative routes, even if you need to get up at 3 in the morning and get home at 12 in the evening. Even then, it will still not be sure if the toll system will fold over. There will always be people who will want to make use of a quiet highway. Companies will end up carrying all costs.
 
As I've said before I'm going to use the toll highways because they should have just left them free anyway,small improvements for such a high cost to end motorists was not on,it reeks of corruption from the top.

I wont pay Sanral a cent,if they want my money they can stop me at a road block only then will I pay.

We all know the only reason they haven't implemented a fuel levy of a couple cents is because its hard to get corruption kick backs from that system hence a corrupt European company was chosen to rip us ordinary law abiding citizens off :mad:
 
The headline is misleading: as much as I dislike Vusi Moaner, I don't see where he is quoted as saying that [highlight]all drivers[/highlight] will pay etrolling fees, which by definition [highlight]would include taxi and bus drivers.[/highlight]

The headline should read something like "SANRAL demands blood money from all legally licensed drivers in Gauteng", considering that very few (if any) taxi and bus drivers obtained drivers licences without bribing corrupt officials.
