What is wrong with the ASDL line. As a owner of a internet cafe in cape town this can not do at all. Slow to no bandwith and we are lossing huge amount of money. Telk[:(!]m tell use whats wrong....

It is silly to run an internet cafe (or any business that relies on internet availability) on ADSL. Telkom provide ADSL as a "no guarantee" service so therefore cannot be held accountable for your losses.

I agree with Perdition, but looking at the alternative fixed line (Diginet) prices and options[xx(], it becomes a hairy issue, and understandable that you're using ADSL. Wireless with dedicated bandwidth?

People generally go to a coffee shop with the primary intention of purchasing coffee, not internet services [;)]

everywhere else in the world small internet cafe owners use adsl -- they provide cheap access for the masses -- wtf is that so damn difficult in za? -- I don't think it's silly at all

My opinion is based on the current state of ADSL services within SA. As it stands it is certainly not a reliable service and one that is not given the support by Telkom that a business requires to deliver a quality service to its clients.

sadazz where in cape town is your internet cafe. You could do what some one I know who also owns a internet cafe does. get wireless interenet as a backup. Yes I know its not fully legal in SA yet but it would save you in the long run. Purchase the hardware install it. Don't purchase an active account. In telkom crashes say twice a month then spk to the guy and sort something out. mail me if you need info about the wireless stuff

..- dot dot dash ;)

Firstly mate, i too own an icafe in CPT, and my advice, is that, firstly an adsl line, or even 10 of them would not be substantual to successfully run an I Cafe.
We are currently pushing through +- 70 gigs of http traffic on a slow month with a no downloading policy enforced.
Secondly, if you are as serious about your business as we are, then who the hell in their right might would use SAIX as an ISP?

how the hell are pushing 70 gigs of web pages?
no downloading and your pushing 70 gigs how many computers do u have 100? wow it must b a busy cafe dude why couldnt adsl run an internet cafe one connection should b able to push atleast 10 pc if there is a no download policy and if u worried bout a 3 gig cap then buy three more for 300 rand not that hard 70 gigs wow thats alot

70gigs is not a over the top for a standard adsl line with no cap -- I work in a small office with about 30 users and a mail server and average about 800mb down / 200mb up a day (weekdays)
