I think some congratulations are in order ... because it doesn't happen very often. :erm:

EDIT: Maybe the fact that I'm on a 3 week holiday has something to do with it.

But consider the price you paid for that crockery ... An engagement ring, a wedding reception, a honeymoon getaway, a lot of restaurant bills and many months of gifts and wooing. Your private retirement plan has surely been depleted by now.

You're right. It's a high price indeed. And it gets pricier as the years mount because the autoclean ability rapidly fades unless frequently doused in baubles. Also, using the domestic appliance on the kitchen table unavoidably requires the acquisition of even more crockery and cutlery. And a bigger mortgage. But it does have major benefits, which in my experience considerably outweigh the costs.

Well, up till now washing the dishes with my own hand and doing the other thing with my own hand has served me well till now.
 
I have solved the whole washing dishes debacle by buying enough crockery and cutlery to last me and my son three weeks. That is the maximum my maid has ever been on leave so I am safe.

Teachers should be put to work during the holidays. It's the perfect time to perform basic maintenance on the facilities and earn their keep instead of loafing around picking lint out of their belly buttons.

Teachers in my experience come in two flavours. Excellent and utterly crap. The first deserve extended holidays, the latter should be digging trenches for fibre during that time.

I must still format and install a new image on all the computers in my classroom. I only have a wireless LAN so I have to do it one by one at first ... and then as I go ... in batches. I must still create the image and decide and contemplate and try out different pieces of software because the classroom's PC are very old and underpowered. I can't even use anything of Edubuntu that is newer than version 9.04.

Added to this there's about 8 broken PCs that must also be fixed. Most of their motherboards are faulty.

The sciences storeroom next to my class, which is also my storeroom, also needs a good spring clean (it hasn't been cleaned in years). That's going to take at least 2 days.

Then I have 3 days of CAPS training during the last week. It's the grades 7-9's turn this year.

Added to this I started teaching a new subject this year on short notice and I still have to work out lessons and do planning for much of the second semester.

A three week holiday is going to be too short. The only thing I'm looking forwards to in a holiday is the chance to sleep a little bit longer.
