Concerns about Checkers Sixty60

Shoprite's on-demand delivery service, Checkers Sixty60, has received much praise for its success over the past few years. However, allegations about it neglecting its riders are mounting.

A MyBroadband reader and former Sixty60 rider recently reached out to describe their experience working for the platform, which ultimately ended in their bike being loaded on a truck and being blocked from the app.

So the foreigner bit I can buy to some level, MrD, UberEats and Sixty60 seem to largely be foreign riders doing the deliveries in my area.

But it doesn't surprise me that Pingo play silly buggers with the guys though especially if they're mostly foreigners.

I almost killed one of these guys today. (That's only 1 for the day so a bit lower than average though).
2 in my case.

One nearly ended up as luggage in my boot because he thinks sitting 50 cm away in the middle of the car where he cannot see anything in front of it is a good idea. He must have better reaction time than a F1 driver.
Another one nearly became a hood ornament.

"leaving Rider A with R2,800 in net monthly earnings."

This is just so sad, risking their lives on those stupid bikes and working those hours for a little over 90 bucks a day. No wonder people turn to begging or crime

Sounds like riders are basically kidnapped and forced to work for Checkers, short of being shot against a wall if they protest.

What's next? "Sixty60 reminds us of the pain from Apartheid?"

"Rider A said their working hours suddenly increased from a nine-hour shift to working from 07:00 to 19:30."

That should be illegal, department of labour should go visit them.
Let's not groan for socialism just yet.

Im more concerned about the instore shopper staff who dont look out for customers when flying through the store... my poor shins are black and blue.
#MyShinsMatter
Yep this. Like they hired taxi drivers to train them and the riders

There are still laws that need to be adhered to regardless of the supply of labour.
Checkers is going to pass all this adherence cost onto you and I.

I don't want to pay for that. I tip the riders generously already.

There are lines around the block for motorbike-delivery rider jobs.

If they don't like it, be nice and resign so others can get the job.

Well sounds like all bike delivery riders need to resign then, basically not worth it anyways if they only walk away with R2800 per month.

Exactly!

Those who groan for intervention on here are literally demanding to be charged more for Sixy60, then proceed to go complain in another thread about how they are struggling financially.

One of these fkkers crashed into me last year solidly, foreigner that couldn't speak any English (luckily he didn't get hurt even though his fault) and I ended up with a R65k bill for insurance (obviously he didn't have insurance and the number plate used was for another motorcycle entirely), man I was pssed!

Probably best if they are not allowed on the streets anymore. Also had so many near misses with these guys.
