Johannesburg – Two men died an excruciating death after the Transnet pipeline they were allegedly trying to steal fuel from exploded.

The men were rushed to hospital with serious injuries, but one died on arrival and the other the next day.

Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said two men, aged 28 and 39, were arrested by members of Fidelity Security on Thursday night at Kendal near Phola.

He said someone in a Transnet control room had detected a fuel pressure drop on the pipeline.

My heart doesn't even bleed lumpy custard for these fsckers...

The damage they do to the environment around the area they're stealing from I'd immense.
100s. Pity they continued to make bad life choices.

At least Transnet seems to be having some working surveillance on their equipment unlike Eskom and the the Telco companies.
Apparently transet have reinstated the weekly helicopter inspection of the pipelines as well now.... Over and above the constant pressure and flow monitoring.

Looks like this year is not the year of the thief, from hijackers being shot dead, guns not firing when they are supposed to, unsuccessful cable thieves and now this, it's just not working out.
Except for government thieves, especially Covid-aid-thieves seems relatively unaffected, ie. arrest & explosion free thus far..

were they burning clean or generating lots of smoke?

hope they at least had the decency to self immolate with ultra low sulfur diesel, think about the environment!

Ironically probably a few of these incidents wouldn't have happened to the thieves if there was good maintenance and competency applied.

clearly no risk assessment and proper safety protocols were not followed.

The gangs even go into a farm and are able to pinpoint where the pipes are and fill tankers in fields. Some farmers didn't even know there were pipes in their fields.
