Has anyone been for an allergy test? I get red (and face feels hot) sometimes after eating but I haven't been able to determine the culprit and wonder if it might be some low-level allergy?

Happens with meat sometimes. Anyone else have this?

Just maybe keep a diary or a note of what you are eating and when you get the rash then you can start filtering out which food maybe causing an allergen.

If you are on medical aid just go to the doctors and ask them to run allergen tests as you think you are allergic to something. Two types of test can be done the first is a skin allergy test whereby they generally prick your skin and apply a little bit of each allergen into the pricks on your skin, and see if or at which point you get a reaction. it gives them anidea of what allergen is causing.

The second is a blood test. If you can rather get the blood tests done, they are quite expensive but IMO a lot better and accurate.

Maybe you can try eating some anti-inflammatory foods to see if that helps.

I get the same thing, but I've never attributed it to allergies? I get really flushed and quite... splotchy (for lack of a better word), but its never worried me enough to pay any attention to what foods are the common denominator.

Tbh, I always assumed it was simply that my metabolism was working in over drive to process the meal (it is MINDBOGGLING how stupid that sounds when I put it in black and white, but there you have it).

Also make a note of any herbs, spices, sauces you use as well.

Will try keeping a diary. I usually notice it after a braai if I have too much red meat.

Had a chicken bagel and it's happening
Hope it's not a gluten allergy.

you could spend ages trying to narrow this down.

Step 1: Book an appointment with an Immunologist. He will basically test you for allergies to a whole variety of things in a 20 minute session (most of which will be collecting background information about you). He will test you for a variety of things - insect venoms, nuts, mold, dust, dairy products, shell fish etc.

If he identified any allergies, they'll then do a blood test to work out how allergic you are and recommend an action plan (usually just anti-histamines for minor allergies...major allergies involve the potential of dieing). For whatever reason I delayed doing this for years, and what i regarded as a deadly bee allergy, actually turned out to be much much weaker because I had out-grown it. Gave me huge peace of mind. In your case at least you'll feel comfortable eating a chicken burger :) Go and do this.

Common foods allergies - Nuts,Milk,Eggs,Seafood,Soy and Wheat.

Thanks. Thinking of booking an appointment with http://www.allergyclinic.co.za/

Or should I just go to a regular doctor/hospital?

I can highly recommend Dr. Morris. Thats who i went to. So ja, just do it. It's simple and quick and in CT the pathologist is in the same building, so you will know within 2-3 days what you are allergic to.

R800 later and i'm allergic to Housemites, Grass, Bermuda Grass and ... Cats!!! :wtf: Cats and grass? How can anyone live like that? FML.

Also avoid all histamine rich foods.

Bump.

Thinking of getting allergy tests done.

Whrere is a good place to get some basic tests done?
Are the hair strand analysis tests any good?

According to some MyBB experts you don't have an allergy unless medically proven.

And even then they don't want to hear about it.

I am allergic to manual labor, but that's about it XD

I can't imagine how it must be to have to avoid certain foods or cats, that would make life a lot less worth it

A blood test analysis is the way they do it these days.
