AllofMP3.com to be shut down?

Seems that allofmp3.com managed to get mentioned by name in US-Russia bilateral horse-trading around WTO admission.

An official document posted to Digg today summarizes an agreement between the U.S. and Russia in which Russia has agreed to close down AllofMP3.com, and any sites that “permit illegal distribution of music and other copyright works.”

The agreement is dated November 19 and posted to the Web site for the Office of the United States Trade Representative. It summarizes the joint efforts of the two countries to fight content piracy, an issue known to be centered in Russia and Eastern Europe.

It looks like this story will drag on for about another six or seven months as there is no guarantee that the Russian government will be able to get the courts to agree, but they do have the advantage in being able to change the law!

Its interesting that there is starting to be backlash against the RIAA legal actions with caps being set on compensation claims in Germany.

Why pay for it? Its no more legal in SA than downloading it from a torrent site or from anywhere else for that matter.

Legality of AllofMp3 aside, I can't stand US foreign policy, the recording buying influence at the WTO. Its really a joke, even the EU cave in. China is the one to watch though.

WTO is supposed to be a World organisation, but every company wanting to join has to negotiate with the US. Why do they feel it necessary to control & dominate the entire Universe is beyond me!

Because they have the money and consumers that everyone wants to sell to. Until the EU and China get up to speed, accept it as the status quo.
