For anyone who is interested. I have just received the new Allyoucaneat prices.

Pretty much the same as everyone else.

Code:
Dear "All You Can Eat" client,

We regret to advise that due to dramatic increases in Telkom's wholesale
ADSL pricing we will unfortunately no longer be able to provide our "All You
Can Eat" 30GB account at the current price.

We feel that Telkom is unfairly changing the terms of our service contract
with them and using a new per Gigabyte pricing model to effect a huge price
increase in an area where it's pricing is not subject to regulatory
scrutiny. We have lodged a complaint with the Independent Communications
Authority of South Africa on behalf of all our subscribers and will keep you
advised of the outcome.

Until then, the new prices that will be effective from 1 November 2005 are
as listed below:

CAP PRICE PER MONTH INCL VAT
3GB R230
10GB R580 (replaces the current "All You Can Eat" 30GB account)
20GB R1160
30GB R1740

The per Gigabyte pricing also means that we will also have to implement a
"hard cap" on user accounts. Once you have reached your cap for the month
you will only be able to surf to the "All You Can Eat" DOTCO web site to buy
additional gigabytes.

We have posted new Terms and Conditions with the change to 10GB and "hard
capping" at https://dotco.net/allyoucaneat/terms/.

If you don't agree with the new Terms and Conditions, you have the
opportunity to cancel your All You Can Eat agreement immediately by sending
an email to [email protected] before 30 October 2005, stating
that you wish to cancel your All You Can Eat account. Continued use of the
service shall be deemed to be an acceptance of the new Terms and Conditions.

Expect a phone call from us in the next few days to come.

For more information, please read the article published in iWeek at
http://www.iweek.co.za/ViewStory.asp?StoryID=155086 and our latest press
release which can be viewed at
https://dotco.net/allyoucaneat/kb/index.php?ToDo=view&questId=20&catId=6.

Yours truly,
The "All You Can Eat" team

It's the all new "All you can eat lite snack package"

TELKOM you can go to HELL in a Swine bucket,May elephants stomp on you until
you are flat as a Telkom bill.

Urge to bring holy war on Telkom Rising.

Puts them in a bit of a predicament with their name .... allyoucaneataslongasyourewillingtopayforit might be a bit long?

well, technically, it was never 'all you can eat'....but yes, it's just a bigger problem now :P

@Roman4604 - Rolf!!!

Yeah, I am very upset about this whole thing. Looks like I'm down to 10Gb. Oh well, I never really went over 15GB, so I guess it won't be too bad.

BTW AYCE you have an "opt-out" type agreement (which is borderline illegal - refer the Edgars Club case) - please change it to an "opt-in" as per Axxess etc etc

Toothless ICASA complaints

Hi,

I, like many others here, have also lodged a complaint with ICASA, but I have very little hope. Shouldn't we rather make a big stink at the Competitions Commision? Just look at their FAQ http://www.compcom.co.za/procedures/procedures_prohibprac_faq.asp?level=2&child=3 that list the practices that warrant a complaint. Surely "charge excessive prices" will cover the new ADSL pricing model. If all the secondary ISPs are suddenly forced to adjust their prices by 300-400% because a monopoly changed its pricing then I'd say we've got a pretty strong case. Any ideas how to go about this?

The email I got from them contains this:
<Q>

Now - let me get this right, I have the option of getting out of my 1 year contract with them, but only if I say so. If I don't say so, then I am agree'ing to staying with them at the new terms and conditions.

That's nothing. I made some terms and conditions this morning for breakfast. I am going to send them to AYCE and if give them 10 seconds to reply. If they don't reply then they owe me R 100 an hour for every hour that I breathe.

If they do reply, then they will be agreeing to the third set of conditions that I will cook up when I feel like.

I just don't get how little a contract means to Technology Companies in this country. It's 480 a month for a YEAR you bleeding idiot's - as per the original agreement. Price is FIXED for ONE YEAR - as per the original agreement. NOW - how much bandwidth do I get for that 480 ?

That's the question that I want answered.

Okay - i'm just a little bit off track here and letting off steam, so - let me phone them and see what the scenario is really.

*i'll be back*

Phoned them - yup - poor "tired as hell of answering the same questions" dude answers the phone and says - yup - you don't cancel, then you are accepting to pay R 580.00 a month for 10 GB for the rest of the contract agreement.

Don't get me wrong - he was helpful and friendly.

Sigh.

They [AYCE] are in litigation wif teklom, whom he says are in breach of contract. Well - [Dream mode on] if so, then AYCE should offer the same packages as before, and ignore and changes made by teklom, and force teklom to SUE them [Me lives in dream world].

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. ME HATES TEKLOM.

AYCE's 10GB price [R 580.00] is still beat by WebAfrica's R 570.00.
You save R10.00. Um. Is 10 rand worth the change to a different ISP ?
Currently I'm leaning towards NO, but then again, I must feel shredded by the - sign here for no reason whatsoever - deal.

Suddenly I rember something - I LOST A MONTH OF BANDWIDTH by signing 7 days before the month end [contract deadline].

i.e. I paid for a month [less 7 days] EXTRA, and this is the thanks I get.

Hi WebAfrica - howz it going.

Being treated like a number is just soooo muuuuch fun.

That's Fraud you know.
All you can eat <---not anymore
Think I have an answer to their naming problem ...

When their users hit their cap, they'll be eligabile to get a free voucher for their nearest pizza joint where they can chow down until they burst. There problem solved .... no false advertising claims.

Guys I hope my cheque is in the post ... well at least my pizza voucher.

shame u guys are being harsh

is it their fault telkom did this?
To my knowledge these are they guys that found/first started using the loophole. Suppose if it wasnt them, it would've been someone else.
