Almost but not quite

the tech mag T3 seems to think that Ps3 kicks Xbox ass,
but yea i know mags arnt always the most trust worthy source.
I looked at each systems specs and did my own assesments,
now admitedly Im no pc bof, but it certainly seemed that PS3 topped Xbox in every catagory, well on paper anyway.

And I think PS3 will get better cos the line up in already improving towards next year.

Ps it should also be known that I am no hardcore gamer I will prob play max 3-4 hrs per week and so I dont expect to be plowing thru reams of games a few good titles will keep me satisfied

Well, bottom line is that you want something you can play games on, good looking, fun games. Both the PS3 and XBox 360 have that but it's PERSONAL PREFERENCE if you choose to wait it out for the PS3s AAA titles.

Neither choice is the WRONG choice mmmmkay. Read up on what's available, take into account if you're into online play, assess your budget and make your decision that way. If you get swayed by other people's biased views you'll probably end up making the wrong decision.

If you're loaded, simple solution is just buy both. :D

Abev,

surely if you've accepted that you're going to have to wait for some good games to come out, then why not invest the money until they do. You might be able to afford 1 off the interest accrued from the R6500 you invest.

Note: I base this on an investment where your return over a year is 8.3%

It really would seem that if you want a million replies on a post all you need do is show a personal preferance for the PS3, Cough Cough Fanboys? Cough

Although to be honest I still may buy the Xbox, but purely from a cost pespective.
If you could choose either free of charge, how many of you would honestly take the box?

I would - there seem to be more games that appeal to me . . and isnt that the point - playing they games you like?

Well most games are on both platforms, while PS3 has a couple classics coming that I love

I would take the PS3...

then sell it and get 6 Xbox 360 games and a console :D...
Seriously the 360 has a much better gaming line up and online ability right now...

If you are a gambling man then the PS3 might be worth a flutter. However if you want to be sure of having fun the 360 is the way to go right now.. It even rumbles ;)

It's either going to be absolutely awesome or suck really badly.... I am really hoping it is awesome....
It's pure fun, get 4 buddies and you're set. Look at the HD vids of co-op, looks unfreakingbelievable. Well, to me anyways, different strokes for different folks I guess..

You know my answer ;)

Ditto Bwana, it's all about the games. I spend on average 2 hours a night playing mainly online. From a social aspect, in South Africa especially there is no comparison. The R70 a month (One movie, popcorn and coke) I spend on Live! is worth every penny.

There are currently 25 games available for ps3 at Musica, and only 27 available for the Xbox doesnt really seam like that much difference to me

Sorry, but Musica is not a good place to try compare ;) At the end of 2007, the 360 will have over 400 titles, the PS3 will have around 150. That includes exclusives and multiplatform games.

Here's a more Thorough exclusives list.

a bit out of date but still 2:1 IGN has much better Release lists.

Look this is introspective, totally just my own justification. I get called fanboy quite often, but it's not a blind faith thing, I routed for the PS2 over the Xbox 1 for many years ;) I was primarily a PC gamer and I thought long and hard before making my decision, even so far as to have almost imported a Wii instead of either!

As far as those "classic games" go, there's merit there, but at the same time I find it quite refreshing to have a platform of new ip's that I've never played before, not just rehashes. For example - Gears, Crackdown, Kameo, PGR, Forza, Halo, Bioshock, Overlord, Fable etc. (I just discovered Flatout, it's mayhem, I love it :D)

The question is which draws you more: nostalgia for the familiar, or a new experience? It's personal preference, I do go for the later (I generally can't listen to the same 3 CD's for more than a month or so). The PS3 does have some interesting titles: LBP, The Agency, The NCSoft Agreement, those intrigue me. But most games are cross platform anyway. But by comparison, the MGS4 video was my biggest disappointment of E3.

Then there's the "indy" factor to consider - Sacred 2, Theisis, Hydrophobia, HMM:E - The 360 appeals to developers who previously would have been PC only. And there's the RTS factor. I'm a 'casual RTSer' so I'm quite keen for things like Halo Wars. And then there's the XNA wildcard . . .

I've covered online already.

Last Thoughts . . .

*sigh* So I'll sum it up like this again, then hopefully not post here again for a while:
The PS3 isn't bad, it isn't evil, but it is very expensive and isn't particularly useful at the moment either. Paying R6600 for it now is a waste of money, because, by your own admission, it's going to be sitting idle quite a bit, while you firstly watch TV, and secondly wait for something interesting to play. So my suggestion remains the same:

Rather spend the money on a nice 32" LCD that you'll use all the time. With the change you can afford a 360 (BTW $50 price cut in a week), which will give you tons to play in HiDef, while the PS3 gathers some momentum. Sure, so what if you don't get Heavenly sword, or Lair on release? (Look at what you'll have access to instead...) So you wait a year till the PS3 drops to below R4k? The games will also have time to come down in price and you can pick up all the AA '07 titles as half price classics. You also won't have to replace your controllers when they finally introduce rumble. In the mean time you have access to a stunning 1st party 360 catalogue and the preferred console for Multi-platform releases.

That's if you decided to go back at all ;)

That's my last word in this thread. You make up your own mind.

Well from you guys I got a lot of stuff concerning the lack of games, and while there is an obvious lack in comparrison to the xbox, it is in comparrison to the same period in the xboxs life.
I wouldn't have considered an Xbox 360 in its early days either. One key difference though is that at the time there was no other choice if you really wanted a next generation system.

I also looked into specs, and saw the ps3 is the better system.
Specifications mean nothing. What is critical is how a system can be used in the real world.

Sure PS3 also lacks the numbers in exclusive titles but they will come, I think you guys are right if you want a kickass machine now with kick ass games now then get the Xbox, if you want to look to the future and enjoy decent games now then PS3 is for you.
It is completely insane to buy computer hardware for future use. The cost of computer hardware falls fast, so if you aren't using it the premium you have paid is money burned.

Which would be great if you were going to run your games on paper.

Fanbois will just say mine is bigger and yours sucks. They have no reason, it's just their faith.

I didn't see any bias. If the 360 was R6500, the PS3 was R3700 and the game situation were reversed everyone would be telling you why you should buy a PS3. Everyone has given very good reasons why the Xbox 360 is the better purchase right now. I am fairly certain I'll end up owning both. The 360 first because it is cheaper, has many more games and reports show cross-platform games performing better on the 360. I'll be considering the PS3 when it's price drops to where the 360 is now, possibly even cheaper because I may well only be buying it for a handful of exclusive games. Of course if the developers really get to grips with the weird hardware and manage to make the cross-platform games better than they are on a 360 I'd be prepared to consider it when it reaches the current 360 price. Even if both consoles had an equal choice of games and demonstrated equal quality I'd still get a 360 now because the PS3 has to be a lot better to justify its price.
