My guess is that your power supply is too small and that you've already written off your PSU.
Try borrowing someone else's power supply.

Also, did you connect the internal speaker on the motherboard? That internal speaker might help you diagnosing the problem.

Is your CPU's heatsink properly seated? Usually the PC would switch off like that if the CPU is overheating OR if the power supply cannot deliver the required power.

PSU was screaming warning bells at me when I read the specs. 250W? really? lol!

psu most likely. tried on board vga still no luck. btw it's a friends pc not mine and according to him the gfx card was an afterthought just before he picked up the PC from the supplier.

:erm: it would be the PSU, most likely.

& it isprobably damaged by now so switching to onboard wont make a diff. try another PSU first before doing that.

Pretty crappy supplier if you ask me. If the System is only three weeks old, ask him to take it back to the supplier and get them to give him a more powerfull PSU. He can always pay the difference. They should have advised him better anyways.

If the supplier doesn't want to exchange it at least let us know who the supplier is ;)

It is not the supplier's responsibility to ensure that the power supply is big enough, unless the supplier actually assembled the whole PC, because the supplier will otherwise not have an idea of what the other components will be that would be used with the power supply.
Usually the suppliers recommend MUCH bigger power supplies for this reason. Like when you can get away with a 450W PSU for like a Core i5 760 + HD 6870, they usually recommend a 600W PSU.

he has already returned to supplier. btw this gfx card doesn't even need extra power to run. most likely why they didn't think it necessary to upgrade psu. will keep you posted of the outcome. thanks all for input.

ps. whole pc was assembled by them.

The graphics card is a low power one (less than 50W), but that still adds up with the CPU that is like 65W.
The 250W PSU is most likely not even an ATX2.1 PSU, so it probably can't even deliver 100W on the +12V rail.

When in doubt, phone a friend. Never buy PC parts unless you or someone else knows what they're doing. That PSU should have been 400W minimum.

update: mb blown according to techie. swapped out and working fine now so they say. will see how long it lasts.

I would suggest that you also get a new PSU, before you blow the new motherboard too.

have informed them of my concerns and they suggested I give it a try and see. According to them the gfx card as installed has minimal drain on the psu so it should be fine. I am not pushing the issue just yet because the turnaround was less than 2 days so giving them the benefit of the doubt.

before i read all you other okes replies i thought about the mobo , foxconn are keen on blowing things up. had one , also didnt last long. biostar ftw ;)

If someone sold that PC to you, they should be spoken to.

I have a horrible thought in my head of linking Foxconn with Sahara, and with their sub-Chinese down town factory case/PSU combos... :D

BTW. 400W PSU is the minimum recommended rating according to Asus. (rtfm)
