Just phone Telkom to ask about the installation date. I ordered on 6 Jan. And they tell me it suppose to come to install on 30.. I think that is not so bad... And now only waiting for the call from them next week...

I would like to ask about your guys that how many kb can download in torrent and how your guys set the upload limits? IF i am using 384k, what i must set up the upload limit to make the good download speed? (and it save the upload/download 30G of All you can eat??

My personal opinion is that you should contact the ISP's you want to test and ask for test accounts.

Discuss the timeout sessions and come to an agreement with them on that, no matter what ISP you choose, you don't want to be disconnected every 3 hours when the cap gets to the last 3 GIGs and every hour when the cap is on the last GIG.

I use default settings on torrents and it works fine. Maybe someone more experienced with torrents can help you here.

You can tweak your torrent app till you are blue in the face. there are a million different ways of setting up. I use Azureus and it works pretty well. I also got a 384K line and sometimes it's slow and sometimes it can be maxed out. All depends on the speed of all the peers and seeds connected and also what you are uploading too. If you are seeding files that are already been downloaded, it helps. If you set a manual upload speed ok 512bytes or 1KB you can't expect huge download speeds BUT that said sometimes it can some down like the clappers. I usually set it to a global max upload of 10KB and each one UNLIMITED. The speeds are usually over 10KB/sec for each torrent. It's all about the balance. There's the Azureus WIKI you can check out. It has all your questions answered. also you will need to sort out a port on your router for Azureus to use. there are also lots of guides to setting that up. that will help your speeds too. Also getting an IPC account won't help. anyways that my 5 cents.

I set max upload per torrent to 1 using Azureus and on a popular torrent I get between 35-40 on a 512 line. My line is dodgy though even on a local ftp download i max out at 50-51 so I am not fussed at all about my speeds. I also try wait and be patient and wait for the seeder to leecher ratio to be possitive

i set upload at 5KB/s and download at full speed. i get ~52KB/sec down on my 384 line.

peace!

yes my setting are the same as this, and i get btw 40-50KB/sec on my 384k line too.

the torrent protocol gives preference to people who are downloading and have a higher share ratio than you - so if your torrents are going slow (and there are lots of peers/seeds available) you need to share more. but in my experience if you wait a bit the speeds normally pick up (i guess your share ratio becomes higher than other people at that point).

Leeches

The two comments above really PISS ME OFF

You can't upload only 10% of what you download. This is unfair, and slows down the whole system.

I remember a few weeks ago people complaining about the local torrent sites having strict user policies, and this is exactly why. It's fine (to a degree) to limit and/or hit-and-run non-member torrent (i.e. public) sites, because these have many many users, but to do it on a closed site is just plain LAME.

Set your maximum upload speed to 10% less than your lines maximum upload speed (so if its 256k up then set it to 23k/sec upload), and you will be contributing to the community. Otherwise you are a leech, and deserve to have your balls cut off.

And don't you dare bitch and moan saying "but it uses up my cap wawawa", buy another damn account then, cos you're just messing it up for everybody else.

And don't hit-and-run either. This is where people stop sharing once the file is finished. Try to seed until you have reached a ratio of at least 0.750. 1.1 being the "accepted" international level to stop seeding at. and if it's a *rare* file, seed for as long as you can.

Thanks.

This is incorrect.

Well, I have always considered being labeled a leech the highest honour netizens can bestow on you! To me that is what the net is all about. But this P2P seeding cr@p puts a spanner in the works. Why not get your stuff off Usenet - central servers, if 10,000 people upload, 10 million can download, which is a P2P ratio of 0.001, and that seems a good ratio to me! It stuns me how people who rape P2P for copyright infringing stuff get all righteous and moralistic about ratios and "contributing to the community". I mean PLEASE!!!

agreed, if u arent willing to do your part dont bother downloading
Nicely said - if you're not willing to seed then use something other than torrents. Capisce?

JBFRobisher, that is an insane argument. Just remember there's a difference between hosting and sharing/serving. Usenet if not p2p. If ur argument held, we could consider anything from http to pop to irc to be p2p. If u dont like seeding/serving/sharing, rather stick to ur usenet and other server/client based stuff. Either way is good, each has it's own pros/cons and u decide for urself

Cannot see ONE "pro" for P2P other than giving yourself a warm fuzzy for "contributing to the community" .

"You better not dupe me out of my fair share of your bandwidth so I can dupe somebody else out of their royalties" This just doesn't compute

On the other hand those that limit are usually the first to complain when they start getting terrible speeds. So remember JBFR - dont be a bitch when you notice other's doing the same thing.

That is why I like DC++ - you can make it personal. If some c*** wants to limit and he is D/Ling from you - you just hit em right back - where it hurts - in the speed :D

Hey man, I'll never be a bitch! A batch maybe, but never a bitch!
:p

Still trying to see any advantages in P2P over "traditional" sources and methods.

The biggest advantage of p2p is multiple connections. In theory, if u hav access to many ppl sharing the same file, it shud be faster and more reliable. With the "traditional" ways, if the source gets disconnected, ur screwed. p2p, irc, newsgroups.. there always has to be uploader(s), ppl to bring the stuff into the system and then there has to be servers.. ppl to share the stuff. All the different methods hav their own pros and cons and certain files n ppl lean more toward the use of each

Do you know what really pisses me off - people who think they can tell other people what they should and shouldn't do - LIKE YOU!

If I want leech I will thanks!

While i`m downloading my files are shared if my d/l is done i wait for whatever uploads to complete and unshare till i d/l again. I only have a 1 gig so i do it this way but fair is fair give back what u take or the system will die.
