I almost got hijacked today. Was parked. Guy knocks on the window with a gun. 1st instinct is to start the car, reverse, and drive. In retrospect i should've given him the car. Could've been shot.

What I like about a manual transmission is the emergency launch option :D

The guy who was shot outside our offices last Friday evening was not so lucky.

Glad you got away, have you reported it to the police? What car was it?

No point. There was a cop in the next street. Who didnt even bother stopping me wen i flew by with my lights off and my driver door mirror bent backwards from hitting the guy.

EDIT: VW Polo. I know im gona get a few "I told you so"s now...

Please report it irrespective of what some local cop was doing. And no, it's casualty of the car being popular, it has it's pros & cons.

As someone who has also been through something similar but worse I am glad that youre ok. You did the right thing to post it on a forum.
Also talk about it to as many people as possible. That will lessen the trauma.

I also agree with Fudzy. you must report it or else our crime stats will not be a true reflection.

Damn dude...thats intense.

Friends had similarly bad reactions...floored the accelerator with the gun pointed point-blank at their head....escaped a headshot by a couple of inches.

Being hardcore isn't always the right reaction imo.

Still...glad it worked out for you.

Glad you OK but it's a very dangerous place Pta Central.
Hope the guy meets Satan his maker soon and before he hurts someone.

Your instincts kicked in: the primal adrenalin-fuelled fight or flight response, you would not have survived as an unarmed guy against the criminal with a loaded firearm. You could have stayed and done nothing but your survival instincts kicked in and you survived.

I hope the side mirror did some significant damage to the criminal.

If you are going to get the damage repaired under an insurance claim, you will need a SAPS incident number.

As for the crime stats, I cynically believe that even if everyone reported every single crime, the stats will still be altered by agents of the cANCer party in the same way that the matric pass rate gets adjusted.

I am pretty sure the crime stats are already adjusted. It's the ANC after all..

Sell your Polo boet. It's a good car but it's just too much of a hijack risk here.

Glad you're okay. I might have popped off a few rounds through my window into his gut, but that would be if I felt I had no other option. Especially since I would be half-deaf thereafter (gunshot inside a car, it's harsh on your ears).
