So I dont know how many of you realised we have a true alternative radio station in Cape Town on 91.3. Now, the DJs are not the best and probably speak way too much afrikaans to attract more people. But seriously the music they play is awesome and its such a nice alternative to the normal mainstream pop crap. So.. Icasa is not prepared to give them a permanent license, even though they have almost 6000 likes on facebook, and who knows how many more from the sms line. Now, the 91.3 frequency has been allocated to a new station (which have not even been on the air at all), how *****ing retarded is that? Sh*tballs nanny state.

I feel like rebelling (while listening to the Sex Pistols) and kicking the authorities in the b@lls.

Wait, what? Have they been kicked off the air again?? They just got back on!

They will go off the air on 10 June to give way to some bottle feeding station

big fan of AFM, this sucks.
See the station manager is now opting for Digital Broadcasting - the station is so good that I'll buy a DAB radio in an instant- but we'll see how that goes

Big fan of AFM too, however, the station has only ever operated on a "special events" license, from the time it was called Radio Houtstok. (As part of the Houtstok festival) Some of the folk who started the station broke away to form Bok Radio and managed to get a permanent license, ditto with the new Smile FM. LOTS of rumours as to why AFM never acquired a full license. (Mainly to do with the very shady business practises of the station manager) It's a pity, as they seem to have attracted a loyal listenership, despite being off the air so often.

yeah.. thinking of also going the DAB route. If I have to ever listen to the other pretentious radio stations again.......

The DAB receiver thingy will only cost R300 according to them...
