Alternative investments

This got me thinking:

https://www.leapfunder.com/

What other alternative investments have you participated in? Crowdfunded lending? BTC? etc

Oh wow, that is a pretty neat concept if I had the millions I and become the Venture Capitalist I want to be this would be a convenient start.

As for "alternative" investments I do own Bitcoins if that counts and I am very excited about Zar X !!

nah bru...if you've got millions then you create an actual VC fund. Know a couple of guys doing that...very cool.

Is Zar X going to be more cost effective or why are you excited?

You could check out rainfin.
Very tempted. Would have to use an intl one...closed ZA bank account last week.

Don't think its particularly profitable but might just throw a couple grand at it to test the waters...keen to get away from the formal system so as long as its better than break even then its fine.

Wouldn't do that if I were you. Heard the horror stories, enough to put me off. There's another similar service I South Africa but the name escapes me. Either way, people don't really repay their loans (think about your target market her: people without money) and when you need to chase them down Rainfin and the like aren't really of much assistance. They provide a platform, take a cut of the deal and leave the collection up to you.

hmm...the test runs I read on the intl equivalent mostly concluded break even...but I thought they do the chasing up on people. If you need to do it yourself then whats the point?

lendico? They closed down I think.

Well my idea of horror story is lose everything not break even.

Other idea I'm toying with is a commodities EFN...like coffee maybe. Figure that will always have value even if Wallstreet has PMS again. Only concern there is liquidity...both because someone might attempt to corner the market and also just liquidity @ selling.

You're asking advice from a guy who openly admits to preying on the innocent, and advocates getting into ponzi schemes schemes early, cashing out and moving onto the next one? This here is a despicable human being...

The main concern with commodity ETPs is the price decay over time. These vehicles don't hold the actual commodity but rather a rolling average of future contracts. Usually front and second month future contracts. Because these future contracts spend most of their time in contango (front month cheaper than second month), over time the ETP price will decay due to the shifting nature of the commodity future term structure.

I've been interested in something like this for a while now: http://www.ozcf.co.za/

Only rather than being non-profit it would be great to find a well run example of such a farm where it is for profit and one can invest to share in said profits and/or the produce and/or both.

You can also invest in art, wine, classic cars and rare coins.
