Hi , I have been with MWEB since 2013 and had no issues till recently.

I pay R199pm for 2mb "uncapped" which is basically 70gb per month till you are throttled to death.
Times have changed and my kids just stream their content now, youtube and movies online and suddenly that 70gb isn't so much any more.

Anyway I called them to upgrade my package to 4mb uncapped (R249pm), which gives you 110GB before throttling you to death but they cannot upgrade me until I first upgrade my line with Telkom to 4MB, wtf???

So I decided that's it time to cancel my subscription with them but I am clueless as to the alternative ISP's. I understand we have no truly uncapped but I am sure their are more progressive ISP's out there that have evolved with the times and not kill me at such a low threshold.

My usage is - Email, VPN for work, that's it
For the kids/wife - Youtube, streaming series/movies

thanks in advance.

Get a WebAfrica capped account for R199 and never look back. Afrihost/Axxess have also upped their game over the last month on their capped accounts and with them you have the opportunity to use the available data when you want.

Why not just upgrade to 2meg premium and get 200GBs?

You'll have that problem anywhere you go mate. You first need the line speed upgraded before you can upgrade your ISP account speed.

I'd recommend sticking with them and upgrading to a 2mb premium account which should double your threshold, or going with a 4mb premium account, which will give you roughly 400GB usage for around R360pm.

Hi madeinjapan, Sales can upgrade data only accounts but we generally recommend that users confirm that the corresponding line speeds is achievable with Telkom first. This could potentially save you from having to upgrade and revert back to 2Mbps after finding out that 4Mbps isn't available in your area, for example.

Please PM me your MWEB account details, so that I can look into this for you and arrange for Sales to call you to chat about upgrading.

I don't care that my line speed stays at 2mb the reason to go to the 4mb uncapped is purely for the extra gigs for 50 bucks more compared to an extra R170 for the 2mb premium.

I know this has been debated to death but should products really be termed UNCAPPED when all ISP's have a certain limit before you are throttled to dial up speeds???

thanks all for the replies I will explore my options

If telkom handles your line i don't see why mweb can't bump your account to 4mbps even tho your line sync at 2mbps

Yeah, this is true.

Nothing wrong with having a 4Meg account, on a 2Meg line.

I'm sure it can be arranged, PM me your contact details and account info.
I will arrange with the team to contact you in the morning.

Yip upgrade to 4Mbps Standard, which gives you 110GB. Note that it's per 30 day rolling window, not per month. If it was per month it would be a soft capped account, which it is not.

Thanks MWEB Guy for sorting me out. Just received an sms confirming the upgrade.
