Hi, I am a student and recently cables have been stolen in my area and telkom said they won't be replacing it
I would like to know what other options I have other than fibre as it's no available in my area and the uncapped lte from telkom as it's too expensive.
Thank you in advance.

How much can you spend a month, how much data have you been using in ADSL and what do you use the internet for..?

I can spend R600-700pm, use about 250-300gb pm and I am a multimedia student so most of it is use on online resources such as video tutorials, updating software and correspondence with the lecturer.

Your best bet is 200+200 GB LTE from Telkom for R1059 pm.
Maybe find a second hand modem on Gumtree and go prepaid. (same price but you keep your sanity)

If no cable connection is an option:
The only options are:
a. GSM {Also known as cellular, 2G, 3G, 4G, LTE}
b. Satellite {Too expensive and high latency}
c. Wifi { 2.4, 5 Ghz} Need a Wireless service provider.

Thus a. is the easy option.
This is expensive if you are a "heavy user".

This leaves option c. This is heavily dependent on the Wireless internet service provider {WISP}. It is an exception to find a "reliable over time" WISP.
Thus, now you back at option a.

Since you are a student, find a source of good internet {Someone with xDSL or fibre}, make a deal with them, setup your own wireless link.

Whatever you do, do not enter into any contract with any service provider.
Pay as you go, pay monthly for the service and buy your own router/ modem.
