Hi guys

I'm moving next week to the Centurion area (Thatchfield) and have tried to apply for a new ADSL line for the house we're moving to, but the area is not "ADSL-Ready" yet, nor is WiMax. (Pity, the estate has been established 4-5 years ago).

The guy at the Telkom shop in Centurion told me "I'm stuffed". So I'll need to consider and alternative technology that would allow me to connect to wow to satisfy my small addiction :)

What is your thoughts on Neotel, Screamer, Telkom 3G (lol), or any other method that you have tried and tested that is reliable.

Any advice is appreciated.

Any wireless setup you can think of has been tested. None are reliable (except the Telkom Wimax option IMO)

I've (several years ago) made a decision that I will only move to a place I know is:

a) Covered by somekind of wireless technology (I can live with dead-ass slow ass non reliable internet at home)
b) Has Telkom lines for ADSL
c) Can get ADSL
d) a is usually redundant as b & c takes preference

;)

i burst isnt that bad but its a ripoff with the prices.. i play on iburst u know i raid no problems

anyway .... yeh i would go for neotel.. uncapped.. :D stay on vent all the time

The nature of uncapped offerings, especially with wireless, is usually how slow it gets once they get everyone hooked.

The more people sign up the slower over time it gets. Usually the bottleneck is the wireless towers, but in most cases it's both the wireless tower and the amount of bandwidth they allocated to the "omg, uncapped, these users will never use more than 35gig a month!" type of bandwidth you might use.

And remember kids. Each time you receive a phonecall, Neotel drops your data line. Not sure about their Wimax technology though. And I'd rather not spend a few thousand a month on an internet connection for home.

I'd brown-nose the boss at work and stay later at night and play from work.

Is Thatchfield close to Amberfield? If yes, then Telkom 3G works well although a bit expensive as a primary connection.

Yes, Amberfield is also in the Centurion Area. I was considering Telkom 3G also. Is it stable though? Yeah, it's a bit expensive.

I'm strongly considering Screamer at the moment. They seem to have had some problems in the first half of the year, but lately they've received alot of good feedback. I'll try to find and link some posts.

Check out the current troubles people are experiencing with Screamer and the inconsistency in latency and wow etc... personally, Telkom Wimax (unfortunately you can't get it), because Telkom's wimax has been the only consistant wireless I've ever had.... ever. And I've had sentech, iburst,3G and wifi
