Hi there!

We run a small office with 4 employees who due to data security need to work on a remote server via Remote desktop. We have a 6Mbps line on an 8Mbps exchange according to Telkom.
Recorded speeds are 5Mbps down and 0.48 Up and during lunch times 1Mbps down and 0.1 Up.
Either way the line is too slow when we are all working even when running at its' fastest. Around lunchtime no work is possible.

We are in a central busniess park and connect to a data centre a couple of km away.

What are out alternatives - especially if we are try to boost our Upload speed and ensure low latency and constant connection speeds.

Diginet, Wimax etc

anyone in a similar situation or with some experience in this matter.

Advise much appreciated.

Thanks!

Neotel fibre is pretty good. I have it and it works extremely well.
The line speed is synchronous i.e if its a 10mb line then its 10mb up and down.
Check with Neotel if its available where you are, its worth it.
Alternatively you can look at bonded ADSL but my experiences with that werent too great.

Like rakabos3 said ... Bitco , where is the business situated ? , if you are in gauteng then you're most likely within range

Even if you get fiber, I recommend a proper QOS system also, prioritize RDP etc, because even with fiber you can easily saturate the line

We're in the same position. Just moved business to Woodstock in CT and the ADSL is ridiculous. Supposed to be up to 4mb (which probably wouldn't be enough even at full speed) but it feels like dial up most days.

Kliq and Neotel seem incredibly expensive but Bitco seems well priced. Their coverage map isn't showing me any coverage in Cape Town so hopefully that's just not working right.

Don't think they are in CPT yet, only in JHB area

Neotel is not expensive at all...

Expensive
The best option is Diginet(dedicated pt to pt line).

Cheaper
all the others are best guess service. So speed will fluctuate. Latency is usually worse with wireless tech.

Also your office park telco setup may be the cause of the speed issues

How far apart are the data centre and the office?

Really? Bitco is R900 a month uncapped for 5mbps.

Neotel is R5100 for 5mbps and it's got a fair usage cap of sorts.

So unless I'm missing something...
