Hi

I just moved into a new place and immediately got on the line to Telkom to secure a ADSL line, I was planning on going with openweb as an ISP.

Everything seemed to be going well and Telkom told me that once my phone line was in then I could call them and convert it to a ADSL line.

The first time I phoned they instructed me that there was some exchange maintainence going on so I'd have to wait. It has been two months and the last three times I have phoned they have let me know that there is no ports available and they are not planning to upgrade the exchange in Douglasdale in the current financial year.

I was disappointed to say the least and had planned my whole house around having some fast speed ADSL, on my last call the lady basically said there was nothing more they could do and too bad.

Now my question is what are my alternatives?

I'm looking at wireless which is more expensive but Iburst and Neotel have some uncapped options but not at marvelous speeds, I plan to do a lot of gaming which I know will suffer from drops with wireless but I do not see any other alternatives.

Any advice?

Telkom are idiotic....how do they plan to roll out fixed line if there's not enough ports in a well populated central suburb like Douglasdale? A friend of mine who works in telecoms told me that in his area which has multiple complexs there is a grand total of 9 ADSL ports available at their exchange...wtf
