You can still edit transactions in QB, great feature if you are the only user. However, you can limit edit rights to certain users and require passwords for its use. You can also close off prior periods.
Caseware reads QB files directly, not sure about the others. Actually auditors only need trial balances and GL accounts in Excel or .csv, they can then import into their software.
Yeah that a big no no in the auditing world. One side entries and the ability to edit transactions without transactional log. Sage Pastel is still best in terms of that. I would definitely give them a call and see if you can organize a trial version of Sage One. Or even a demo of Partner. I know it normally limited to 200 transactions or something along those lines.
Also report wise pastel generates very neat reports from the base reports.
