Alternator completely burned out - Experience required

possible its not an alternator and instead a ground strap to the chassis? remember with my picanto weird things happened if the ground isnt connected properly.

Seen this VAG cars as well, I always suggest that before anyone starts fault finding electrical issues, check earthing points as modern ECU's are notoriously finnicky with low or fluctuating voltages.

I bought a car that had it's wires chewed through by animals. Luckily it rained and shorted out, a lot, during the return window and I could give it back. 0/10 not recommended. Had windows opening at random, had the dash light up like a christmas tree, and the speedo work and tach not, and the other way around. Getting stuck as the doors won't unlock.

Electrical issues will forever be a deal breaker for me. Once there has been some fault, you don't know what further damage was done down the line to different controllers and boards. An old alternator popping, isn't that concerning, but something else happens or you pop another one, burn that witch at the stake.
 
just amazed at the pricing on alternators nowadays - when i had my Citi Golf i had to replace the Alternator - a brand new bosch one cost around R985 but at the time i had to replace they had 10 left at a special price of R600 each at the official Durban Bosch agents - so i paid that and had it replaced for R200 labor by my friendly mechanic
