Promised a mate i would change HDD for him on his machine so i did never switched it on but when i did the screen wont go on ??? changed to the 3D card still same problem ?? took out bios bat still same problem

Basically i have taken out everything and put back together but the flippin screen still wont go on ??

Is it the motherboard ? and if it is do you think its worth replacing ?

Check if the PC speaker is plugged in or onboard. It should give you beeps if something is wrong. If no sound it's usually the CPU, so unplug it and make sure it's plugged in correctly. If the HD is IDE you could have plugged the cable in wrong way round if the cable doesn't have a hook.

damit had to take out the CPU to get to the HDD i think it might be that ??

there is no beeps and the speaker sound is in ?

weird machine the HDD came out backwards and CPU was in the way

LOL, did you earth yourself before doing that? Does the CPU have pins and did you bend or break one by accident?

the machine isnt weird, YOU are weird LOL :D

just leave it and let someone who knows what they're doing fix it.

sigh

Surely taking the CPU cooler off is a little weird. Didn't the front of the PC come off and you could slide the drive though the front?

Have you ever changed a hard drive before?

Some Compaq/HP towers have this feature where the CPU cooler is in the way of the HDD.

But it is impossible to put the CPU wrong way back as the layout of pins will prevent that - unless the CPU was forced into the slot. Then it's buggered.

Only if it's an old PC, like a 486DX or 386SX/DX - these can be put together the wrong way very easily... and it happened to me once.

Ummmm have you tried a different screen? is the screen pluged in?

Thing is, some people I know would remove the CPU, put it back correctly and then expect everything to just work - all the while not knowing that thermal paste exist for a reason.

I have to admit though, I have never 'done' a CPU & heatsink installation/replacement. My first time is coming closer at quite a speed and I'm worried that I'll do something wrong. :erm:
