I have not had a look at the News forum today - I take it this article is discussed there...?
He then began surfing the web, heading straight for the broadband user forum www.myadsl.co.za.

Here he pointed out the poll of users asking which of the four broadband vendors offered the best service, WBS achieved 49% of the votes, Vodacom, 39%, Telkom 11% and Sentech 1%.

While this may not be a fool proof method of determining which of the companies is better, what is for sure is that the forum users are not known for their kindness, or their uncritical nature.

I thought that was the other poll from December 2004, I had another look down the list, and there was another poll that I was not even aware of:
Which ‘broadband company’ do you think provides the best customer service (support, helpdesk etc.)?

I basically have a problem with the bits that I've highlighted there bcos the poll itself is not of forumites, i.e. anyone can vote in that poll on the MyBroadband.co.za main site (forum memship is irrelevant), and I wouldn't be surprised if WBS have been voting there all by themselves (probably with their browser setup to block cookies).

This is exactly why I want us to run polling threads in vBulletin - it allows forumites to vote only once, and it has some nifty invisible ultraviolet ink that it stamps forumites with [voting analogy] in case someone tries registering multiple member names & voting more than once (granted you have to use your noggin to pick it up, but the evidence is available).

FYI, the rest of the main site polls are here:

So, please leave your sarcasm behind if you expect a response.

Shaun

you gotta take it - because that's part of what it's all about.

Vodacom3g has taken a fair bit of flak and weathered it with aplomb.

I'm not saying you haven't, but your responses to many things have been very "matey" - like someone you'd be chatting to in a pub.

That's great, nothing wrong - so long as you intend to continue in that vein. But as far as I've seen so far, there hasn't been a huge amount of definate info from your side.

I know it's not easy to be the "company spokesperson" - hell, it can be a nightmare if things aren't going well, but take the good with the bad.

I was a bit out of order with that comment - my apologies - but that's what you face with a public site where sentiments and moods are strong.

I attempted to read this thread, but all I could see was gripes and moans. So I skipped through. Seems to be happening alot no days. Basically I read Shaun's posts.

Not sure why people keep trying to bait Shaun Green all the time. If you have a prob, phone the guy directly. He sorted out the problems I had.

A number of people on this forum seem to have very inflated opinions of themselves...... I think we have another unreal.co.za developing here.

I recommend using this instead:
http://www.iburst.co.za/ns.cfm

and then there is also:
http://www.iburst.co.za/ns1.cfm

It gets rid of the pukey-colouring and it also solves the squishing problem on the incidents page which requires you to scroll right down to the bottom of the frame & then drag the bottom scroll bar to the right & then go all the way back up to the top of the frame & then reverse the process for the next incident & then reverse the reversal...

Or you can click+drag the mouse left or right if you happen to be familiar with that technique (but I still prefer the unframed version, uses less bandwidth too :))
This is a novel idea BUT! the incident page hasnt been updated since the 30th or the 31st either way today is the 6th! And you all agree there has been problems with the bandwidth over the last 2 days!?! SO WHERE IS THE INCIDENT!?!?! I AM SICK OF HAVING TO GRILL TORTURE BEG BORROW AND STEAL FOR INFORMATION ON WHAT IS HAPPENING!

oh and than there is the problem of the cap not rolling over to the next month but that is an issue unto itself!

END!

I take no offence at being wrapped over the knuckles here for suggesting a novel heresy of dissecting the iBurst site.

Ravilj, you're totally preaching to the Vatican choir - personally I have given up posting requests in the Problem Reports thread begging for WBS to actually send out the faintest wisp of a smoke signal indicating what isn't going on...
