Got an interesting message last night. Recently I downloaded a trial of Office 2007, so M$ has been mailbombing me every few days trying to get me to buy it. Last night their mail arrived at 03:46. Also at 03:46 I got a mail from "Mail delivery system" at Eskom which was a failed attempt to deliver that same mail to postcards@hallmark.com. It seemed to be sending from an email address I used to use when I worked for Eskom some time back, but the mail reached me at home too. How the M$ mail got from my home email to the defunct Eskom one is a mystery. Here's the setup:

I'm on ADSL which I leave on.
Outlook 2007- sometimes on, but not on last night
Own domain with IMAP mail hosted by gMail
Windows 7 RC (7100), Avast AV, Windows FW.
All auto-updates on

Obviously with Outlook off last night my home PC was not part of the loop, but how is my email moving around like that?

the only way to check the path of the mail is to check the internet headers in outlook.

I've tried to do that, but I don't know how in Outlook 2007.

It was easy in all the older versions.

Right click on the email and choose "Message Options".

Thanks guys! I think the problem is solved.

I used to forward my mail to the gmail address, and I see now on the gMail control panel that the radio buttons have mysteriously swapped themselves back. Have now deleted the address and swapped to prevent recurrence.

I'm not too concerned about what happens at the Eskom side, as I've found Eskom's internet security to be atrocious and at least 5 years out of date, and there's just no way to talk to anyone about it.

Hilton, thanks for the headers tip on Outlook.
