Doubt its a standard linux release, but still, its running Ubuntu. :) Link
Where would you go to get one like this ?

He wants $7500 for it... Link. And I'm not sure how current that is either.

The original images in the OP was taken in 2008, which is about right with what he mentions on his sales page. Would be pretty cool, except I don't have R7500 to blow on a laptop, nevermind $7500. Those specs wouldn't have been too bad for August 2011, but I would have paid about R10000 for a decent brand with those specs at the time anyway. So maybe just a little overpriced :)

Nice woodwork though.

Wondering if he built more than one or retrofitted the internals of the original one.

He built that in in 2007 and back then it had a HP Pavilion ZT1000 for the internals.

EDIT:

6/13/11- This is the original page for the Steampunk Laptop that has been on this site for several years. I am now currently taking pre-orders on a newer version that will contain more modern hardware and a more refined design, based on this original.

If one looks at the labour (time, design, manufacturing) that goes into these things as well as the uniqueness then US$7500 is probably not that bad. He will definitely be able to sell them at that price and he's probably catering to a niche market that has the money and would love one of these in their office.
