Amazing Restaurants in your area

We were thrown out of a NewsCafe (Bedfordview) before because of dress code. We went in, were seated by a waiter, and started looking at the menu. If I remember some people have already ordered drinks when the head waiter appeared, asking us to leave because we didn't adhere to their dress code - most of us were in shorts and T-shirts.

As far as I know, their dress code policy only kicks in at 18h00. We arrived there at about 17h40. It would have been fine if the waiter told us from the start that we don't comply, but giving us a table only to complain later is a bit unprofessional as far as I'm concerned.

Went to Mikes kitchen in Wonderpark Shopping Center last night.

Was pleasantly surprised.
We have tried it twice before, first time they had just opened and everything was quite average (and my medium rare steak was burned).
2n'd time we waited about 20 minutes for a drink and decided that will be all.

Anyway, last night the service was fast and efficient.
The food was great (My starters were possibly a little bland for my taste, peri peri chicken livers, spicy but not actually hot) and all went quite smoothly :)

Will definitely try them again.

Why would you go back a 3rd time?

dress codes are so lame. just a way of people pretending they are better than others, imo ;)

in related news:
caffe verdi
wynberg (CT)
lovely food (pizzas are superb)
informal, pub-like atmosphere
QUIZ NIGHTS on tuesdays :D

Checked out Erawan a few shops up? Some of the best Thai in Cpt.

4 years later and the place was still open.
Wife didn't feel like fish, I didn't feel like pizza, neither of us felt like driving.
Only other place in Wonderpark to eat dinner is Mikes (unless you count chicken licken or steers).

Anyway, after last night I will give them a 9 out of 10 for food and a 10 out of 10 for service.

Ah, that is fair :)

In Tokai
Manuka Cafe has great pizzas.
Pizzas 8.5/10
Service 3-9/10 (Two out of the 10 or so times we have been there we got a pathetic waiter)

This is far out of my valley, but I remember eating at Tokara Restaurant on the Tokara Wine Estate a few years ago and the food and service were out of this world ! The view alone is to die for.

The Cape guys who have not been there, can give it a try, it is well worth your while.

Jah, but not cheap, esp the wine.

DW11-13

This is a franchise; I have mentioned them on here numerous times - we frequent the Melrose Arch one. Best Pizza in town.

While I am a big fan of the very same Melrose Arch PizzaEvino that you frequent, I reckon the "Best Pizza in Town" title has got to go to Jolly Roger in Parkhurst (or maybe they just taste that good because I am smashing them down late at night after consuming vast quantities of bitterly cold Windhoek ;))

Food is fine but the wines are not cheap.

Bar ba coa in Umhlanga Durban is a an Argentinian styled grill house. Not cheap but very worth it.

Their reserve Chardonnay is f'ing mind blowing. Such rich buttery notes.

On topic Theos grill on Beach Road Cape Town make the best steaks and ribs in Cape Town. Don't bother with their starters since they are overpriced and a bit underwhelming. Also, check your bill at the end of the night because our waiter tried to sneak a few expensive items in as replacements for what we'd actually ordered. Very easy to miss if you don't scrutinise it. Luckily my wife was on the ball.

Place : Yamas Greek Taverna
Area : Somerset West
Service : 7/10
Food : 9/10
Price : Very reasonable
Dress Code : come as you are

Prepare to be welcomed by the uber-enthusiastic owner, Barry, and to be served authentic, delicious, freshly-prepared Greek dishes. The option to go for is the 'Feed Us' for R85 pp, where Barry will ask you a few questions and then start sending food your way! Wine selection is on the thin side, and also due to the confined spaces your clothes will end up smelling of food. Other than being in Greece, this is the best Greek food ever!

+1 When this place first opened people were bringing their own table and chairs and setting up in the parking area.

Place : Karoux Restaurant

Price : Reasonable
Dress Code : Casual

Awesome experience. Totally unexpected in such a small town :)

Place : Throbbing Strawberry

Somehow that name gives me other thoughts

Care to name this place?

The place was salvatore's in Randpark Ridge

Another place I thorougly enjoyed was

Mo-zam-bik on Beyers Naude
price: decent
Cuisine: seemingly traditional Mozambique flare but basically anything they can put their awesome peri peri sauce on.
service: 7/10
Food: 9/10
Dress code: smart casual
I would recommend reserving a table as we were one day turned away as they were fully booked so have always reserved a table since then
