Amazon Echo Dot 5th Gen

We have no need for a doorbell, but I'll be putting up a security camera for the back yard in the new year.

Comes back to picking your devices carefully... If you see a valid use-case go for it, if not there's no point.

Live in a block of flats, and that includes some thoughtless children. A Ring Doorbell is likely to appeal to them as a nice shiny toy, but a anti-theft bracket of some type should be double. On the other hand, a camera mounted up in the corner could serve a similar purpose, and is not as easily tampered with.

Ring will replace your doorbell if it's stolen.

There is a downside to Ring and it's their subscription model. If you want to access/store recordings then you have to pay.

The doorbell should be secure... You mount the plate on the wall with screws and plugs, and there are security screws to secure the Ring to the plate to make sure folks don't steal it; and yeah high up is my plan with the camera anyway.

Read about the replace if stolen policy, but still ...

Don't particularly want to record anything, but yeah, bit of pain.

Well, they have twice broken the security gate and door, - resulting in the loss of a rather expensive laptop, a PS4, and a few cellphones. So breaking things is not a novelty to some of them.

Eish... That awful, man.
