Amazon sells an AmazonBasics flash for Canon and Nikon DSLRs for just $28
If you're looking to get into artificial lighting for dirt cheap, there's a new 'most affordable' option in town. It turns out Amazon sells what looks to be a clone of the already cheap (~$70) Godox VT560 for the rock bottom price of just 28 bucks through the AmazonBasics brand.

PetaPixel spotted the speedlight earlier today, and the response has been pretty positive so far. Sure, the "AmazonBasics Electronic Flash for DSLR Cameras" can't be radio triggered and doesn't feature useful options like TTL metering, but at $28 nobody in their right mind would expect it to.

 That's dirt cheap! And to my great surprise, they ship to SA: "Price: $27.99 + $14.79 Shipping & Import Fees Deposit to South Africa "

For those of us that just want a super basic flash, one of these coupled with a generic extension cord just got way way more affordable than the alternatives.

These are now unavailable on Amazon.

If anybody has them and has since upgraded, I'm willing to buy yours (at a discount of course since it's used). :)

Unavailable? I wonder if I bought the last two! :D

EDIT: I'm going to kick myself if they now come out with a better v2 for the same price. :o

I think you did; must have sold out on Black Friday.

Product page has been updated this morning; now says will be in stock again tomorrow.

Guess these the ones you mentioned in the general thread.

Might just get 2 myself when they become available again. Not much to lose if it is a dud.

Fingers crossed they're worth the effort.

Those are they.

It’s available again.

I'll keep an eye out for them but in the mean time I spent my last Takealot credit on one of those Shanny Flashes for R1999. Was looking to pick up the Pixel but they didn't have Canon stock except for twin packs.

I'm only starting to explore flash use now apart from a small little Canon 270ex I always had in my bag. Not used very much because it has a pretty low GN and not much to offer in regards to flash positioning or anything else.

I've decided to hold off on my purchase. It was going to be an impulse purchase anyway. I don't need it to be honest. Will buy when I progress to portraiture.

Still looking forward to Bwana's thoughts on them after he's tried em out.
