Hi,
Does anyone know what month is Amazon opening in South Africa in 2024?
I want to start an online store website selling Amazon products, that is why I want to know.

Thanks for any info.

I want to sell niche products so that customers who are interested in these products can come to my website and find reviews and tutorials about the products I'm selling.

Why does this rely on Amazon opening here, you can do that all by yourself right now anyway

If I order products from Amazon in the US, shipping is very expensive and I don't want my customers to pay extra for long-distance shipping.

And you think things will be cheaper when they open basically a "branch" here, its not like they are going to have their whole stock warehouse here with everything and it will be dirt cheap, as far as I know we are basically getting a shipping hub and it wont change much apart from local services.

Maybe for anything easily available locally it might work, but i doubt anything niche or not available here, would be suddenly more available or more accessible here once they open

Maybe as an add to this, I am currently waiting for my Coral TPU which is relatively niche, could only find one in SA for R2500 or more, but bought it from Amazon and paid shipping, all working out to about R1600, so was very happy to go ahead and do that instead of sourcing locally

I really appreciate your feedback and I will take it to heart.

I don't mean to discourage you, just trying to say that it might not be the day and night change you expect the moment the website has a South Africa section, especially for the products you listed above.

My suggestion would be to do see what the viability is to do it with Amazon as it is currently and get everything set up, kind of feel out the market, then when they get here and make things easier, it will be a blessing and then you would already know what the interest is to scale up

Seems to be a common misconception that what you see on Amazon US/UK will be here.

Thats really not gonna be the case. Some items yes but most not

Yes, it’s going to be like Takealot but with Amazon branded products also available.

Probably a bit worse than TAL at launch but will improve with time.

Why would you want to sell Amazon products? and why would you need to know the Amazon opening month?

I bet he saw a video on a social media post by some hustler that made it big doing the same. Good for him if it works out.
