Fallen off a truck? Depends on whay the rand is doing and if a friend will deliver or the post office.
Might be closer to R2500 when it "arrives" in SA. Also specs are a bit "minimalistic" and everything needs to be grabbed from the cloud... Cool if you have uncapped ADSL (wifi), not cool if you don't...
Initial videos on Engadget does however look promising (custom Android, "multitasking" - playing music in background, decent gaming performance and very few hardware buttons...)

Hopefully Amazon will ship directly to SA the same way that they do the Kindles now. The $139 Kindle 3 doesn't cost much more than $15 to ship - so r12-1400 in total. I'd estimate with shipping the Kindle Fire would come up to r1900-2000, which is still a very good price compared to anything else in that range.
All the minus points against it are pretty much obviated by the price for me. It's all stuff I'd like but I can live without. I can see it replacing my smartphone actually. I'd probably just downgrade to a bogstandard Nokia or a low-end Android that I can tether the 3g to.
I am not sure I understand how connectivity setup works. It works on Wi-Fi networks - if one has a standard modem setup at home, eg cell c - must I setup a home Wi-Fi network?
