Amazon will pull support for some older Kindles

And the price of a new one is insane considering the tech hasn't changed much.

It’s night and day difference. I’ve got a new gen kindle and upgraded from my old one and there is just no way I would be able to go back to the old one.

These people crying about 15 year old devices loosing support need to suck it up.

Would argue physical buttons, but we're talking cheapest models.

There are alternatives to Amazon like Kobo, just make sure to check that they're using Carta 1300 screens.

I still really want to get a color based eInk tablet, but notice the half resolution, black and white is fine. If you're used to the very old kindles, the color is about similar quality, black and white is a lot better.

Note any eInk screens you buy at the moment, if newest / last year or two about with Carta 1300, it's doubtful there will be a better tech for a while, if you're thinking of what to budget. Same for color from what I can see.

I considered the color kindle and then decided against it. I don’t read comics or graphic novels so would be pointless.

Why shouldn't a device last 15 years.

Its shocking that we don't expect quality like that.
I have an Ipad that is about the same age that is pristine. Its slowly being locked down over the years. The last thing to go was kindle support, just the other day. It's really sad because as a reader its not bad and I was busy loading books the other day.
I can't even login to gmail now (which was how I was sneaking PDF's on to the device).

No worries though because I'm just going to jailbreak it and do all the things I was never allowed to do before.

Color is actually significantly worse if you only consume b/w content. It makes the screen noticeably darker.

Cool story bro. You do you.

Enjoy the fake outrage over a company ending support for a 15 year old device.

Oh didn’t know that but makes sense.

The only time I’ve wished for color is when certain non fiction books I’ve read have graphics (eg, maps, graphs, etc)

I’ll stick to the b/w screens.

The only part of the "outrage" I kinda get is that if you factory reset or whatever the process is that it bricks the device entirely.
That seems a bit off to me (without knowing all the ins and outs of how that process works).

The loss of access to the Kindle store though seems perfectly fair after 14 or 15 years.
