Hi, would just like to get your opinion on the best place to purcahse the AMD 64 x2 6000+, as Its actually for a family member, so don;t wanna spend to much on it. OR is there any other AM2 chips that go for a good price. the board he has is a Asus M2NPV-VM...

The 6000+ is long EOL (end of life). Most of the new AM3 dual cores are AM2/AM2+ backwards compatible. Check the motherboard's website and the list of supported CPUs.

The Phenom2 x2 545 3GHz dual core @ ±R1000 would be the 6000+ replacement. What's the PC used for?

Its really gonna be much of a office pc, but still gonna be used for gaming, but not intense... The thing Im worrited about is will the CPU work on the mobo?

Seems not. The Athlon 64 LE-1640 is one of the only AM2 CPUs still available and it'll work. Not dual core though...

The guy at Computers Only said that if i do a bios update, it should work.... is that true?

Still going to need to get an AM2 chip to boot and apply the BIOS update :( unless you currently have one and wanting to upgrade to the 6000+

If you can update the BIOS go for the 245 or 250 dual cores.

And BTW you can get the 550 Black Edition for around R1100 R1200 so i dont see why you would buy the 545 for R1000.

It is an upgrade from the 64 x2 3800+, so that shouldn't be a prob. will The update allow am3 to work> obviously not at full speed?

I'm now looking at th 245 x2, as i can get it for 699, which is cheaper than the 6000+ anyways....

I'm not sure if the latest bios update will allow AM3 for that mobo. I googled a bit, but can't seem to find a positive answer anywhere.
